Overlord

Assuming that the Platinum Dragon Lord is killed off in the next few volumes, is there anything that could possibly threaten his rule besides Albedo's plotting or players showing up? The Slane Theocracy doesn't have the resources to deal with Nazarick, the Dragon Lords apart from PDL are isolationists or scattered and powerful foes that are natural to the new world like the world ending tree are rare.

Ainz gives into his depression and commits suicide.

first the elven king gets subdued. PDL comes last

I just realized doing that might earn him favor with the Theocracy depending on the outcome since they and the elves are fighting a war.

I was hoping the elf king would turn out to be a player but apparently not. There's nothing I can think of that would seriously threaten Ainz and Nazarick; they're too strong and too entrenched.

>Complacency and a number of relics left behind from earlier players.
>Demiurge/Albedo/Sebas clashing to the point it undermines Nazarick and Ainz has to sacrifice something.
>A player shows up after Ainz and takes it upon himself to save the world from the famously evil Sorcerer King.
>Demiurge is actually a traitor playing the long game somehow.
There are a number of ways a genuine threat could show up to end it all if the author really wants. But of course the best option is

I'm sure he would turn out the proud mother of many.

Rance shows up

>Albedo's mutiny results in the fracturing of Nazarick
>By some fuckery she manages to take over the tomb and change it to be hostile towards the enemy Nazarick faction (Ainz and the gang)
>Retains a large fraction of the tomb's military power and uses Downfall of Castle and Country to control the rest of the NPCs
>Ainz and the gang escape far away and attempt to build the NW's strength while Albedo does her best to find and kidnap Ainz while conquering everything in the tomb's vicinity.

Boom, 20 more volumes of content. Would give a compelling reason for Ainz to interact with the NW and might actually give the NW people the potential to be relevant characters. Some time skip shit might have to happen but that would give the opportunity for more players to appear. The way things are, I don't see this series going another few chapters before we're all burnt out.

>Demiurge/Albedo/Sebas clashing to the point it undermines Nazarick and Ainz has to sacrifice something.
This feels the most likely to me assuming players don't show up.

>Assuming that the Platinum Dragon Lord is killed off in the next few volumes, is there anything that could possibly threaten his rule
You assumed he cared about ruling. He cared about ruling so little that he gave all the jobs to his underlings.

But as for a goal great enough and worthy enough for his Empire? Well, to invade Earth, and to realise the dreams of his old comrades of course. The Megacorps will fall, the starving citizens would be fed, and clean air and water will be restored to its original beauty. Those who resist will die. Those who submit will become his subjects and prosper. Same offer as he gave anyone else.

>The way things are, I don't see this series going another few chapters before we're all burnt out.
Honestly it depends on the next volumes and how quick they are to come out. Maruyama has a bad habit of having a shit ton of Chekov's Guns and only resolving them WAAAAAAAAAAAAY later. This plus his tendency to write massive tangents about things comparatively weaker than the main Nazarick narrative like the goblins. Brain/Sebas/Climb were good but some of the side stuff is rather weak.
Honestly I like the in Nazarick stuff because it's fascinating to see AInz try to keep his cool and to see all the unique creations of the place.

I'll be happy if I live long enough to see the LN series finish. It's enough if I know the ending of a story. I just want to know how everything ends. Then I can die in peace.

>it was all a dream and Ainz wakes up and goes to his dayjob where he dies of overwork

>Brain/Sebas/Climb were good
I hate Volume 5, I hate all the time Maruyama spends on worthless human dirt farmers volume after volume after volume, and I hate Climb especially. I still think giving those three the camaraderie they had only for Ainz to render it all moot by wiping the kingdom out of existence and Brain ending up dead was a tremendous waste that made the Men in the Kingdom arc even more utterly pointless than it was. This series is a directionless, meandering, redundant mess that suffocates its fantastic premise and exceptional worldbuilding.

Climb alone is pretty bad but him, Brain, and Sebas together were good. I agree that he spends way too much time on randoms though, we all know more about the goblins and Eight Fingers than we ever wanted to know.

I’m honestly more interested in the NW and all the shit that was going on there pre-Nazarick. I’m a bit burnt out from Ainz’s bluffing, and a palatable amount of Nazarick’s environment was already shown in the novel, drama CDs, etc.

Maybe I’m just bitter because I put too many of my chips on the NW group only for them to be dunked in the dumpster (Brain, Climb, Gazef, Remedios, Clem?)

>after writing Keno and Satoru's sidestory the author thought about the next bonus volume to commemorate 6th or 7th season
>it's about Ainz and Shalltear's hard counter Tsa adventuring to the Sea City and chronologically it would take place somewhere during Volumes 22-24 and would be kind of a "boy meets girl" story
>Overlord ends at 17
Don't worry, PDL is only starting.

Forgot to mention that unless it's another soon to be unfired Chekov's Gun Cocytus did keep Brain's body and Climb will probably make the Sebas connection soon I hope.
I am curious about the dragon emperor stuff and the Theocracy but I find Nazarick far more interesting regardless.

Oh, you're right about Brain's body. One of the fake spoilers snuck into the plot leaks said that Mare accidentally shattered Brain's frozen body, but that didn't actually happen, and I forgot.

Did he really say PDL was also Ainz's hard counter? I've read the scenario where he basically nukes Shalltear, but in his proxy duel with Ainz, he grievously underestimated his capabilities, and that wasn't even the real Ainz.

He can do insane amounts of holy magic presumably some of it being world item tier powerful like how ECDL was. Ainz could win it if he were very careful but it would be an uphill fight because dragons are also physically strong.

Is this really going to end in the next volume?
What about the anime, I want more

There will be three more volumes.

Author has said 18 volumes and next volume is 15. Also most people think the author is a dirty liar when he says 18 and it'll probably be more, he just is lazy and likes to complain about his job.

I've already said: Ainz discovers a stable portal into his Notshadowrun.
This instantly opens a goldmine of storytelling possibilities.
Are SB still here? Suddenly guardians have their masters, Ainz has a way to contact his friends and Albedo has a lot of targets.
Is Suzuki still here? Is it like Ganz and we have an alt-Suzuki walking around?
Assuming he is dead, can he be resurrected?
Does magic work in Noshadowrun? Do nukes work in the NW?
Ainz tries to transform this world into the green paradise.
Exodus into the NW from this shithole.
etc
I bet money that they will become friends after Ainz whores a few dozen of vampire brides to him.

It's a moot point since we can infer from that they will not have a final confrontation in Overlord.

Is there even a source for that? First I'm hearing of it.

>One of the seated people was clothed in a magnificent black academic robe,
edged in violet and gold. The collar seemed excessively gaudy, but somehow it
fit the overall design.
This matches the depiction of Ainz's default robe in the illustrations and anime.
>Then there was the matter of his necklace, his gloves, his cape, his shirt, and
his circlet, all of which were divine class items as well. If they had a price, it
would be a jaw-dropping one.
The flowing robe which covered his torso was grander than the one he had
worn earlier.
A red and black aura rose slowly from beneath his feet, and at a glance it
seemed extremely ominous. This aura was not the result of any skill Momonga
activated. It was simply because there had been extra room in the robe’s data
capacity, so the special effects data for a
Disaster Aura had been added into it.
This is his Guildmaster-appropriate attire, which has never been depicted outside of this scene in the first volume, or even mentioned again in the text. We were robbed. Also,
>his shirt
I highly doubt this was translated accurately, but it's the lauded fan translation in its most up-to-date format, so I'm puzzled about this.

Yeah, here is the sauce twitter.com/maruyama_kugane/status/1122780893439873024

>and that wasn't even the real Ainz
His volume 14 portrayal could be more competent but remember, the armor was far from the real Tsa too. If he shares all of the armor's stronger points like its great magic resistance and immunity to negative energy in addition to his dragon might then I already can see him being the pair's natural enemy. If his "nuke" spell can hurt WCI holders then it's even better.

The author's twitter, it's around the sauce post.

Yen Press version has this:
>His necklace, gauntlets, boots, cape, cloak, and circlet were all god-tier. From a monetary point of view, each item was an
astonishingly rare and valuable treasure. The splendid robe mentioned previously hung from his shoulders.

It claims his guildmaster robe is actually the same one mentioned before, which would justify it being his usual attire in illustrations, and also mentions boots instead of a shirt. I think YP is actually correct over the fan translation in this one instance. It'd be nice to have someone who can read Japanese investigate this, since only one of these takes can be correct.

I don't think anybody here has access to raw JP text. You'd need to find someone who actually owns the original Volume 1. I am curious about this too though. Yen Press is usually blatantly wrong when their work contradicts the fan versions, but this is weird.

>No armpit hair

I want the chuuni to be black'd
