This is his human connection to the decision to carry out the rumbling. He's no longer an edgelord wiping everything out due to sheer spite. He's a father protecting his family and a King protecting his Kingdom.

Your logic is a little backwards. Marley had advance warning of the rumbling thanks to the panic in Liberio. The global fleet was their only hope of stopping it. They evacuated the waterfront because they didn't want civilians to be killed as collateral damage in the battle. They didn't warn other citizens because they were confident the titans would be stopped at the sea.

I agree, but that doesn't mean Eren returned to Paradis after visiting Marley. Thanks to the unclear timeline, those conversations could have been weeks apart and still have taken place prior to his trip abroad.
