It's never solely about money retard. Their financial situation determines practically everything about them, since it dictates how they live. And for it to be realistic, their world's economy needs to make sense. It determines society on a wider, and a smaller scale. Take One Piece, for example. It's all magical countries on magical islands with magical people. It doesn't feel like a real world because the author never gives locations a second thought besides "hurr, this one is the dinosaur island. this other one is le epic island where people wear big shoes xdd". It reads like a kid's fairy tale, which is exactly what it is.

Because it makes things easier for the author and the audience. Fantasy worlds can be cool and interesting, but they're a lot more work to create and the audience can more readily comprehend a real-world setting.

I agree with you, but it's not like most shonen manga set in Japan don't skimp over those details as well.
