Even late into the War arc his designs were top notch
I know he already designed these characters back at the start of the series, but they still look great, possibly even at their best, here

I dont know how to describe it with Gon, his skull shape and hairstyle look weird, like a fucked up Bart Simpson.
As for Leorio his face looks weird, like it's been stretched and the small glasses don't help.

Togashi has great designs when its a character he cares about, there's a lot of shitty designs that might as well be background characters (Genthru's goons)

Kubo. Same face syndrome and all, but damn he make people look cool
Araki. The amount of flair he manages to imbue into every character is astounding
Fujimoto. I usually think the characters look fairly normal, but they manage to be highly memorable despite it the more time goes on

Yet his character designs are godly
Miura has some cool monster designs along with Fujimoto

It's not that the designs are particularly good, but damn can he stretch a character to display any and all emotions convincingly. He isn't afraid of contorting a character's face or proportions to fit the scene and it makes almost all of them super memorable because they all have super memorable moments no matter how inconsequential they end up being because of how larger than life he can make them seem. I'd argue the art carries the series honestly

That happened to me back when I first started getting into anime/manga. I just hated Gon's design. Thankfully I grew out of it, and now HxH is one of my favorite series.

I agree with Kubo and Togashi but Oda? If I have to put him on that ranking he would be Y or Z instead. He literally draws the same face in all his male and female characters, only with some little variations and the bodies are basically the same, big torso, small head on males and basic hourglass figure with big titty, big hips on females.

Try reading the series first.
