Oda has done the masterful meta-commentary of showing us just how powerful the new world is by breaking not just the character's spirits, but ours. That grief we feel when we look back on the cozy and amazing stories of Skypiea and CP9? That's the cozy feeling that the pirates that enter the new hell feel when they think back on their relative paradise adventures. Our misery as we suffer through 90 dragged out chapters of an arc that is going on for way longer than it should? Again, it represents how pirates meet absolute hell on the New World, how everything is so much more merciless and unforgivable. And that anxious feeling that the next arc is somehow gonna be even worse than the last? Precisely the fear that seeps into the mind of the pirate ready to face his next journey. Just think, remember when Oda went out of his way to introduce the three-faced log-pose or whatever? How many times has that actually been used since then, 400 chapters ago? 1? 2? All conventions are broken. All notions go out the window. Every piece of reliable consistency and quality you've come to expect no longer exists in this new hell. The bloated side characters that get way too much time? You're in the new world now, kiddo, it's every man for himself, and you best believe the strawhats are now absolutely WORTHLESS in the face of the chaos unfolding before them. The cluttered panels also add to this.
