There's a lot of psychotic retards out there.

Like OP

Why the fuck should they make themselves known? If they so much as write an arc the wrong way they'll get death threats until they move

They just don't want their information out in public for privacy reasons. Added to by the fact that a bunch are wierd recluses anyway. Personally I kind of like the more secretive ones because of the glimpses of personality we have to glean from authors notes and stuff in the manga

Just look at what happened with the Act Age author. Tying your real life identity to anything is a bad idea in this era.

Why is it different in America? Does Japan have more relaxed laws regarding whether or not content creators have to reveal themselves?

Why would there be any laws about that? There are plenty of content creators in America who don't have a known real life identity.

It's not like it's not a problem in America, there's just a lot more people therefore a lot more small time creators, and since they don't really have a young medium like manga most of these creators are older/more traditional and don't really understand social implications

I think getting arrested will give you trouble with your publisher, regardless of if you’re behind a pen name or not.

Lol have you seen how creators get harassed online for whatever bullshit fans are unhappy with? Why the fuck would they want to deal with that shit.

So they can distance themselves from the hate comments about the series.

tax evasion

Because of multiple reasons:

>privacy sake so they can remain anonymous while they work
>not have to deal with overly zealous fans who would hunt them down to stalk them
>haters who will try to terrorize artist/author
>Waifu-Tards or Ship-Tards who want to pester the author/artist into making their ship canon

You need to be this based to show yourself in public

Are you not aware of cancel culture?

How does he do it?

He looks like a sex offender.

They can't unperson you if they have no idea where you work.

looks like a Japanese Uncle Phil

I'm pretty sure it's a shitload more difficult to do any kind of legitimate "work" over here while obscuring your identity than it is in Japan, mostly for tax and obsessive record-keeping purposes.

Do you know what site you're on?
