Check out classic wuxia like Jin Yong's stuff if you like that kind of stuff. Swordless sword style is like one of the staples of wuxia. The author even proceed to subverts all that with his final novel which is about a no-honour MC who trolls those stuffy swordsmen and yes, he uses a gun.

I like katanagatari but you're kinda overselling it. The concepts are already often explored in those samurai flicks and kungfu films like said.
Samurai stories often have stuff about learning that you don't need a physical sword or becoming the sword yourself
