Buu falling asleep makes sense as it explains how Bibbidi was able to seal him, which brings an interesting point in that even if the Z fighters failed to defeat him during the Buu arc he would fall asleep after some time have passed and getting sealed by the Kaioshin thus ensuring the universe safety.

Toriyama explained Mister Buu's sleeping is fucked up because he's not exactly the real Buu, and real Buu has different hibernation periods, it takes eons for the original Buu to fall asleep and more eons for him to awake.
