>Joke character suddenly gets serious and kicks ass
Joke character suddenly gets serious and kicks ass
ahem
>Serious character suddenly becomes a joke and sucks ass
I love this trope, bump
Krilin
Yamcha
>>Krillin
Krillin's slow decline into irrelevancy is truly sad. He is to this day my favourite character in Dragon Ball. He seriously pulled his weight in the Saiyan and Namek Sagas. Why the fuck didn't Toriyama give him the Kai-o Ken? Goku literally didn't use it for the rest of Z and it would be a perfect way to have Krillin keep up somewhat.
Fuck Dragon Ball Z. I get mad whenever I think about all the corners the author wrote himself into.
>serious character is also a joke and kicks ass
same. i get goosebumps desu.
>MC is the joke character
Kill La Kill is gold.
the series was goofy the whole way through. if you didnt like the gyoza wand, you were a shonentard that got filtered hard.
>Joke character gets serious and kicks ass, but only wins through pure luck, causing the villain to seethe eternally
I like that even though Krillin is severely outclassed all throughout the series, he never bitches out and fights with his friends.
>Yamcha
>not a joke character
z secondary spotted
it's tragic that they never gave him a moment though
LODSOFEMONE
This is why I always get annoyed when people wonder why 18 fell in love with Krillin. The guy's a hero. Easily the bravest Z warrior, with Tien coming in at a close second. He's also by far the most well-adjusted member of the group
>Joke character is secretly the strongest character in the series, but doesn't fight
>Character is a complete coward, but when pushed to his limits, is more brave and competent than he ever gave himself credit for
I like and prefer this, it gets irritating when the protagonist is presented as too cool and then there's this designated comic relief side character we're supposed to laugh at instead. Being able to laugh at/with a protagonist and seeing them get to be badass too makes it much more satisfying.
>comedic relief character becomes obsessed with revenge
yes that was the point of my post
Yamcha was serious until he saw Bulma
>Comic relief character is part of the MC's party
>Everybody else discusses about how they are glad he is on their side and that they don't have to fight him
It's rare, but when it does happen I nut
he was serious in universe but the butt of a joke to the reader/viewer
>Yamcha's Japanese voice actor was absolutely disgusted that Toriyama made Yamcha cheat on Bulma and didn't want him to be a complete joke character
It's so sad, bros...
So he was a joke from like the very moment he was introduced to the series? God I remember when Yamchafags kept bragging because he was one of the few with a win on Goku. They kept bringing that shit up until people had to remind them that the manga makes it explicitly clear it only happened because Goku was on the verge of starving to death and then he gets promptly BTFO after Goku gets something to eat.
Everyone was a joke character prior to the Piccolo arc, to be fair. Yamcha just never caught up with the direction the series was taking.
>annoying side character turns out to be best girl
