im gonna start berserk and i heard some people saying i should start with the golden age arc , is this true or should i just read chronologically
Berserk
chronologically
I just don't fucking understand why you shouldn't read it chronologically, why this thing of starting from the golden age is so popular and widespread, why is it actually a serious thing instead of retarded meme. If the author made it like that maybe... just maybe... that's because you should read it like that? I've been reading this manga from 2006 and i can tell you if you don't read it from the beginning then you won't understand some things later on.
anime or manga op?
manga
Don't read it at all. Read something good instead.
It's worth reading but start with the Black swordsman arc because it sets up the world and sets up some foreshadowing/callbacks in the golden age arc.
What are your criticisms of it?
Shallow characters with very few exceptions, subpar worldbuilding for an atmosphere-driven manga, and the magical aspects of it turning everything to shit.
It's not the worst manga out there, it's perhaps a 7/10, but there is just so much better stuff to read.
Shit take from a faggot
The world building is beasty as fuck and magic is good because I wanna lick schierkes armpit. I'll fucking beat your ass if you post a take that shit ever again you hear me, sailor boy?
read a real seinen, berserkspic.
Tell me some to read then faggotbeaner
In my experience you should always read in the order of publication unless the author's made an effort to later present it in a different order. The author wrote the story in a certain order for a reason.
I can see that so far, mainly with the characters. I started reading a few days ago. I’m at the part with the slug count
Isnt that like the first ten chapters? How the fuck has it taken you days to reach that? Of course its shallow you're reading a fucking prologue set way later in the story, the golden age arc is kino
Start at chapter 1
For fuck's sake why is this even a question
start chronologically.
Also, the golden age starts on like volume 3 o 4 , so missing like 3 volumes just to start at the most popular part is nonsense
90% of people I know who dropped berserk dropped it because they didn't get it in the first few volumes. I pushed the same people to get to golden age and now its one of their favorite mangas. Basically as miura said, he didn't know how to start it but he knew where he wanted the story to go, so I can understand wanting to start with golden age and it might be a good idea if you want to be blind to most revealing elements of the story but since things like the villain and such are already known just start from the beginning and make sure to reach golden age, it will pay off.
Don't forgot how starting with the Golden Age meant that we have people unironically complaining about fantasy in a fantasy manga
lol what exactly do they complain about
Welcome to the Neverending journey of the BLACKED Swordsman!
just reading some pages whenever i’m free
Golden Age Arc IS the first chronologically. Starts with Guts' birth. Personally I advise people to do that. Reading it in release order will give you some spoilers about how things wind up if you've somehow avoided them until now.
But either one's fine.
I prefer reading in release order and I don't really get why people would want to start with the Golden Age. The Black Swordsman arc sets up a lot interest and made me wonder what the hell happened.
>Reading it in release order will give you some spoilers about how things wind up if you've somehow avoided them until now.
> spoilers
> literally the premise of the series is Guts' hunt of Apostols
See to see it, he is not that bad tho. There are people who unironically thinks Berserk shouldn't have be fantasy
Anime Youtubers hyping it as the ultimate manga arc
I read it a few weeks ago. I started from the very first volume and read straight through. I don’t see why you would skip to golden age, desu I really enjoyed the earliest chapters due to the brutal violence and momentum. Golden age had more exposition, sure, but it’s really only like 30minutes of reading before you reach golden age anyways. Just start with the first volume.
>Reading it in release order will give you some spoilers about how things wind up if you've somehow avoided them until now.
that's the fucking point retard
i actually watched the '97 anime before reading and it made my reading experience 10x better because of the god tier sound track
ill never not get the feels hearing guts theme
Op don't follow the advice of this idiot : you are meant to know these spoilers by the time you are in the golden age, it's what creates the tension of you wondering where everything went wrong.
Read chronologically. You could start from Golden Age, but the first arc builds intrigue around Guts' character and his life before.
Berserk is around the 7/10 range now, up until the end of Lost Children it's an easy 10/10
Akagi is kino
I recommend you read something else, berserk isn't good at all.
My personal advice is to read it chronologically while listening to the anime's OST and other Susumu Hirasawa's berserk inspired music ( be careful some of the thumbnails of the OST and susumu hirasawa's music may contain spoilers) I read it that way in my first read, and can confirm it makes everything 100x better, the tension is bigger, the fight scenes are more exciting etc, the only downside is I have to change the song depending of what's happening (create a playlist it makes things faster and easier) , but since I do this for all the mangas I read I was already used to it by the time I read berserk.
WTF, read it from the beginning you fucking idiot
>7/10
>but don't read it
Pack it up boys, henceforth we should all just not read anything that this particular user doesn't rate at least 9.5 out of 10
Haven’t watched the anime yet. I listened to metal most of the time while I read it
>akagifag
I can already tell that you're a basement dwelling pasty skinnyfat bitch.
You thought you were clever now, did you? The fact that being critical towards your favorite manga makes you that mad is a bad sign pal, maybe lay off the internet for a while, it's not a bad idea.
