Hiroki Azuma, Ph.D from the University of Tokyo (the guy next to moot) >1995 was an incredibly important year for the Japanese society, and it drastically changed otaku mentality as well. From what I can tell, ‘95 marked what is now considered a split within otaku culture.
>A lot of you probably maintain a single image of anime culture. But in Japan, it is actually heavily split in two ways. This happened in 1995. It was the year when Evangelion was first released. This anime led the split, but it also carries both elements. On one side, it depicts the “real” emotional conflicts of a teenager, and battle scenes are also highly realistic. But on the other hand, it also expresses fictive quality of a symbolic imagination. This split is becoming deeper and deeper.
>In any case, if you only look at what’s produced…to tell you the truth, as this is something we haven’t said at all, but in Japan people have actually given up on the future and potential for anime and games. This is because it has been ten years since Evangelion, and we still haven’t had anything that exceeds it, to put it bluntly. Of course, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is truly great and I mean it, but it’s not easy to exceed Evangelion, right?
>To put it simply, it is as if things have stopped for the last ten years. In the last decade, we’ve only accumulated more and more fictional, symbol-laden stories with lots of cute girls. What in the world is going on here? That’s the general impression of otaku in Japan. At the same time, we know that there is something that makes this necessary.

>it’s not easy to exceed Evangelion Can’t wait for retards saying he hasn’t seen enough anime. We know it’s hard to surpass. Anime fans with at least 5 brain cells and professional critics have been recognizing the likes of Evangelion, Mirai Shounen Conan, Ideon, Lupin III, Ping Pong The Animation and Utena as some of the greatest for years; and that’s because these are some of the greatest. Does that stop Zig Forumsnons claiming they are garbage? Absolutely not. This problem reaches the peak when it comes to Evangelion. People with a hate boner for Evangelion are people that know absolutely nothing about anything and are probably autistic, probably also bitter that someone had the balls to take anime to the next level.

Just finished ENG for first time hihght it we ok but really overhyped . A lot of the repetition inner dialogue shit wasn't really deep or with great meaning. A lot of it was nonsense actually since there was no objective truths or realizations the characters went through, in fact I found myself sitting through 5 to q0 minutes of inner dialogue just for the character to remain the exact sa,e afterwords. There is also a wide variety of unanswered questions: How did they find children, why only 14 year olds? To what extent was rei a clone? DNA, Personality? What s the point of pen pen, why does he have claws? What happend to everyone after it ended? Are the remaining survivors all connected, how does that work where does food come from if their all having a heart orgie ? What about them Jews sitting around that table? Etc ect. Idk lads there's flaws but it's got its good points. Convince me it was better, show me whatnu missed

Evangelion is either the greatest anime which causes you to stop being an otaku, or its just one more anime in the sea of anime.
If you're still even fucking talking about anime after watching Evangelion then you belong in the latter category and you can't bullshit anyone. It's good, but its not "the best". its not even up for comparison against anything else, more than plenty enough of anime is in a completely different genre than evangelion. I find NGE to be a terrible romcom, for example. Because thats not what NGE even is.
If you have enough time to complain about anime after NGE, you have enough time to shut the fuck up and realize you weren't so enraptured by NGE as you claim to have been.

Actually a good fuckin post, well done. People are too obsessed at trying to find “the best” of shit. It’s absurd. Imagine trying to argue which artist is the best of all time regardless of time period, medium, or genre
Josiah King
