It's mature in the same sense that fate/zero and evangellion are mature, but just because it involves self reflection doesn't really make it an adult anime. You'd be hard pressed to really find any anime genuinely aimed at an adult audience.

I think it's young adult, but to me that's more "teenagers" than adult. The themes are heavily based on self reflection and bettering yourself, something adults aren't going to be doing as much as someone in their late teens/early twenties. Not saying adults stop growing, but people do a lot of growing at Subaru's age. To me it's more of a coming of age story. His arcs generally involve breaking down the person he was (a shut in teenager) through trauma, and forcing him to grow into an adult to escape said trauma.

I just don't see how one could make the argument that it's mature. Isekai has always been aimed more at young people. This isn't hardcore fantasy. It's a bunch of cute teenage girls and some 18 year old NEET with a harem.

i hated every single character in the entire fucking show. they're not even characters in any real sense of the word. just plot devices and archetypes, cardboard cutouts. with forced angst every 10 minutes, and subaru is a dumb mother fucking retard who takes 5x as long to figure things out as a normal human being should, so you have to sit there and watch him being a bumbling retard 5x longer than necessary.

It's a terrible fucking show, beloved by literal fucking faggots. It's peak reddit, ani-youtube trash. Not a single character is likable or at all compelling. At it's very best it is little more than mediocre.
