I feel like it's one of the first times I've seen designs that play around with the heads in an extremely fun way.
Only Nihei's stuff comes to mind, his designs are fairly similar. Maybe Kiseijuu as well but that one got repetitive pretty fast.

Nihei is also one of the inspirations for FLCL, specifically Abara.
Iirc there's also that centaur in claymore that looks similar to Quanxi.

i think the darkness devil's trigger would be in the hybrid's shadow. either pulling something out of the shadow or being able to physically detach the body from the shadow.
