AAAAA WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T SOUL AND MAKA KISS?
The author confirmed that they do not like each other romantically; Maka prefers black boys.
It's the noses, which is why Okhubo doesn't draw them that way anymore in Fire Force. At least the style makes the series stand out
I tried to mix the styles but it somehow turned out scary
Why is this series so loved? Is it because everyone watched it when they were kids? Is it a gateway anime like dragon ball?
Partially. The character designs fall mostly into two categories: Edgy which appeals to young viewers (eg Kid) and regular cool (eg Liz) including the respective backstories.
The anime is okay animationwise and as you said nostalgic for some people. The Spin off (SE NOT!) attracts the lolicons. That aside the voice acting is pretty good and the MC is actually a female frontline fighter and brawler type of character which attracts subs and female watchers because muh feminism
Another thing is that the mangaka attracts western fans that like Tim Buronesque stuff due to his feel and world design in general.
Sadly his worldbuilding is shit and there are a lot of plotholes. If he had a cowriter Soul Eater could've been way more brilliant.

>The rute (also spelled ruthe, from the German for 'rod' or 'switch'), also known as a multi-rod, is a beater for drums. Commercially made rutes are usually made of a bundle of thin birch dowels or thin canes attached to a drum stick handle.
Now you know.
It was broadcast on Adult Swim along with FMA:B, and has a very solid dub. That combined with a great and memorable intro, with it coming RIGHT off AS's most popular late night show made a lot of people stick around to watch it, and thus it grew a larger fan-base than it probably would have gotten otherwise. This is why it's popular with western audiences.
also what is saying
