Just finished Patlabor (the TV series), I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
Characters are interesting and the stories are fun to watch.
How are the OAVs like? Are they better quality-wise?

I only saw the OVA so I can't really compare, but they're definitely worth watching. I mainly started watching because I'm a massive Oshiiboo and he directed the second movie. Movie 2 really feels like a thematic and visual precursor to Ghost in the Shell, it still holds up really well; especially if you like Oshii's work.

I watched like the first 4-5 episodes and I thought it was ok.
Then I stopped watching it for a month and started back from where I left out of boredom.
It clicked for me, I marathon'd pretty much the rest of the series in a very short time.

Thoughts on Ocean Waves?
The plot is barely a 5/10, but something about the animation and general vibes is so captivating that I have to re-watch it at least once every 2-3 months
Plus the soundtrack is top notch

This show is great & then the love story kills the momentum of the series. I didn't even finish the epilogue because all the characters got screwed over by the story in the end

It's pretty much more of the same, it finishes the griffon arc (somwhat) and then has more one-offs episodes
There's also the old OVAs from before the TV series set in a different continuity, some of its episodes are great, some are meh, but it absolutely has the best Kanuka

Funny thing is, in the TV series her incidental phrases in English aren't that bad
If you heard some lines of kanuka put of contest you would almost think she's a very fluent ELS speaker, and not some Japanese VA trying to fake an accent
