You know what makes BTC a very OK hold? That if you have money in your bank account, that you know the bank wont be able to give you in case everyone will try to get cash, you can just go on any exchange deposit it there, and instantly get bitcoins. Then you transfer them into a cold wallet. Meanwhile with gold and silver that is a whole another story. You can buy it, but the delivery will take forever, (I waited 2 months). At some point in the future, they might not be able to deliver for silver contracts. In that case they just return cash.
Actually similar as banks not holding cash, the contracts aren't backed by silver 1:1. Its 1:175. So if you buy 1 ounce of paper silver, you actually share it with 175 others.
