What a stupid, pretentious, aimless piece of shit.

This is now a Nino thread
who decided to put "the next Miyazaki" on the cover? doesn't he hate being called that?
I saw this last year and it fucked me up, you're an unfeeling shell of a man
nah it was pretty good user
People like to pretend it's amazing because it made them feel bad and it looks pretty.
It's crazy how shallow most of Zig Forums is when it comes to movies.
It didn't fuck me up, but early on when the train is getting more and more delayed was stressful af, and really felt like it was going on forever (in a good way, not a dragging on way)
How does he write characters do completely devoid of character? They're not even "literally me", they're "literally nobody".
I appreciate the story Shinkai was trying to tell, but it could have been done a lot better.
For instance, episode 2 should have been focused on Akari, better illustrating what happened in her life and why she grew away from Takaki. It would have made the ending more impactful. The random surfer girl was unnecessary
it's even crazier if you think about how that scene is only like ten minutes into the movie. You really get invested quickly.
the whole point of the story is about Takaki moving on. part of that relies on the viewer not knowing what happened with Akari.
>pretentious
>aimless
If you've got nothing to say then don't bother making a thread you imbecile
you were supposed to watch this when you were a teen, not an old man
are you going to roll for her user?
5 wallpapers per second
Did he kill himself at the end ?
the fuck are you on about
this shit hit way too close to home
I can't even describe the emotion I felt when it ended
Why didn't they fuck in the shack?
Why didn't they keep in touch after?
pretentious is a pretentious buzzword
I do remember having kind of a sick feeling that whole part which was unpleasant, but I admire art that can evoke feelings, and the payoff when they finally meet gets you really attached to them within not much runtime
the surfer girl was important and the story is NOT about moving on, the story is about the contrast between chasing a dream and taking risks with low probability of success and just going through the motions in life.
in part 1 Takaki keeps going on the long treacherous train ride even though he keeps thinking it's useless and that he should turn back, but when he gets there it turns out she waited for him the whole time.
part 2 is about the other girl, she's in love with Takaki but she can't imagine him loving her back, so she just gives up and doesn't even try, meanwhile Takaki keeps writing emails to Akari and deleting them for basically the same reason.
in part 3 he states exactly what I said in the narration, about his life stagnating because he just goes through the motions, and he abandons everything. the last scene with Akari at the crossroad puts a cap on this, showing how he lost her because he wouldn't take the leap of faith (in contrast with how he did in part 1).
if you still don't believe me, have you ever wondered what the whole space thing going on in the background is about? it's the same thing, it's about how the nature of humanity is stepping out into the unknown even when there's a good chance it will be for naught, that's how we make progress (also stated in the narration).
Okay, but was surfer girl wrong for not taking the chance, when the story literally tells us that her assumptions are correct, and he has no interest in her?
Also, why was Takaki not sending the messages? And why did Akari not reach out to him, too, if they were supposedly in love?
I'm convinced westerners simply aren't culturally well equipped to understand that movie. The entire concept of "mono no aware" which is a central theme here flies above our heads. We cannot appreciate the bittersweetness of human relationships transience, because we're so accustomed to the idea that if you do the right thing at the right time then you can fix everything. So films like 5cm/s end up being viewed as illogical if not absurd because the solution of the boy simply reaching out to the girl is not presented as a solution at all.
This dude knows whats up
>was she wrong
who knows lol, that's the whole point. there's a 99% chance he would've shot her down but since she didn't ask it became 100.
and he didn't message her for some stupid reason, like "we're so far apart, nothing I do can really make a difference", that part pissed me off desu. she didn't cause I don't know, girls expect guys to make the first move or something.
In the manga it shows her at the end after the train scene, she sees him and goes to approach him. Make of that what you will.
I just hate the fact people are talking about his newer works than this one. But when people do, they hate it for having a sad ending.
>2000s can't relate
You're too late to the party, user.
Try again in the next Shinkai's movie.
I agree and disagree with what you are saying. I think you are right about part 1, but i think Part 2 is about how the distance between Kanae and Takaki is infinite because he is stuck in the past. hes not writing emails to Akari. he is typing in messages to nobody, it explicity shows he hasnt entered an email adress to send the messages to. he probably doesnt even have her email address.
part 3 feels like he is stagnating because he doesnt want to step out into the future, he's still stuck in the past. him hurting the other girl in this part is similar to how he hurt Kanae in this sense. him moving on at the end is the final button on everything.
Been awhile since I've seen an unironic weeaboo post like this.
Kanae understands the distance between her and Takaki is infinite, that's why she decides not to say anything to him. she then goes home and cries, moves on, and is able to surf (face the future)
the messages are obviously to her idk why you're even bringing that up, whether or not he puts her number/address in he's writing messages directed at her.
I get what you're saying but I really think you're thinking in the wrong direction, he never talks about being stuck in the past, however he does talk about "just going through the motions", it doesn't even really indicate that he's thinking about Akari in particular prior to the train scene. he's just depressed and aimless and thinking about where it all went wrong, and then he passes Akari on the street and thinks about what might have been.
>Why didn't they fuck in the shack?
fuck off already Tomino
if you consider the manga canon she's implied to end up with him later on, so much for moving on I guess
in this case Tomino was right
unbased Takaki was always reaching out but he never grabbed the pussy. sad!
