Was Light Yagami right at all, or was he just a little bitch?
Was Light Yagami right at all, or was he just a little bitch?
>Was Light Yagami right at all,
By Japanese pronunciation, yes.
Ethically, no.
he was a little bitch with a god complex. you think people would stop commiting crimes just cuz some faggot with a notebook started killing randos.
He was proven to be a little bitch the moment he murdered a guy he thought to be innocent on live tv just because he called him out of his shit.
fpbp
In a sense, yes people deserve that karmic justice and it's absence helps make the world a shittier place for actually good people. Light's mistake was doing it to feed his self centered ego and targeting people that have already been convicted and people who were innocent. Were it truly for justice you wouldn't punish people twice like that nor would you punish people whose only crime was getting in your way.
Light did nothing wrong.
The author did everything wrong, the series should have ended with Light's ultimate victory.
crime is a natural part of life. light and people who agree with him are delusional fags.
No, his ridiculous plan only works because it's the backdrop for the conflict, and focusing on it would detract from the story.
No, keeping people in check through fear only works as long as there's a central figure to actually fear
If he doesn't know your name then he can't kill you, and the second he disappears or dies things go back to the way they were, it's not like there'd be an infinite line of Kiras with his goals in mind getting the notebook forever
Didn't worldwide crime drop like 20% and crime in Japan drop 50% tho?
He is a man of conviction. I like that.
The longer he lives, the more people would also figure out his rules.
He can't kill you if he doesn't know your name. So people would begin to use aliases.
Newborns would get an real name, and then at the same time also a public pseudonym.
The world would simply adapt.
Then the various Kira's might get their shinigami eyes, but the world would also learn that the Kira's are not omniscient. They are reading the news to pick their targets. And so the powerful would do what they've been doing for a long time and use puppets to do their vile deeds, while at the same time looking into the Kira deaths to figure out the news channels that a particular Kira is reading and then take those over.
The whole story only works because it's not important. What's important is the duel.
Just because an author writes a thing does not mean it makes any sense. There's no way his plan could actually work.
imagine having an untraceable killing device and still getting found out. absolute moron
He was partly right, but he was a full on bitch
he only got found out because he was a gay ass serial killer that liked to leave clues
He was a megalomaniac with a weapon of mass destruction. His goal from the very beginning was to rule the world. He never wanted to make the world a better place, he just wanted to be in charge of it.

>Newborns would get an real name, and then at the same time also a public pseudonym.
I don't know if that's how it works. It's not like the shinigami have access to your birth certificate, I figure if you use a pseudonym enough for people to recognise it as your real name, it becomes that. Or did Wammy get a kid dumped on his doorstep one day and literally just name him 'L'?
if you exist in a world where a mysterious being killed criminals every day people would be discouraged to commit crimes
He wanted to get found out though, that was the whole point. He created a noticeable pattern that the media would pick up on and then help create his new public image. His goal was to become a god and every god needs proselytizers, the mass news media are the most effective instrument in the modern world for getting the word out.
The flaw of this approach was that if the media could notice a pattern then the police certainly would notice as well. Light still had a pretty reasonable assurance because the police had no way of knowing about the Death Note or its rules, they would find nothing with a traditional police investigation that could lead back to him. Unfortunately there was somebody willing to accept the premise that Kira was using supernatural abilities, and start thinking with a much more open mind about how these powers might work.
There are (were) customs like this already. Where people don't share their private names with strangers. It's exactly for shit like this. The idea that names give one power over people is old as fuck.
If that were the case then "L" would be a legitimate name for him, which it evidently isn't. Magic working on true names is nothing unusual, so it should be no surprise the death note works the same.
Bullshit. He almost exclusively targets convicted criminals, so it's just a supernatural vigilante death penalty. It would also totally fuck up the justice system.
This, there would just be people who try to commit as many murders as possible before Light kills them.
I want to someone say that Death Note is transphobic because it respects Deadnames or some dumb shit like that
Kek
He just started to give his notebook to way too many people isntead of just keeping it to himself.
Light is kind of a retard because he could have achieved the same effect by just slowing down and doing it gradually overtime. The people would notice the karma, but the incidents would be too spread out for police to connect a conclusive trail between them. Folklore and superstition can be more powerful than the MSM.
People know of a relationship between smoking and dying, and it's not really stopping them, even though the numbers are crazy huge.
And smoking does not really have any long-term benefits.
Crime is actually beneficial to the successful criminal.
Superstition has suggested wrongdoers will be punished for most of human history, and it doesn't seem to have helped.
ethics are a spook, there's nothing but self-interest
