Name? Never heard of it. Don't think it's in the Top 50 of all time.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_anime_films

Ahh yes, we all know that the best music is all the zoomer rap shit in the top 100 right? Get the fuck out of here with your top x shit. Sorry your only measure for quality of art is how well it sells

It's alright. Love the setting/atmosphere. Princess Mononoke is probably on my top 3 with Kiki taking first place.

>highschool melodrama
>art
You surely have better standards.

Not even in the top Miyazaki movies. Pretty damn good though.
For anyone interested, the top 5 Miyazaki's are:
Laputa
Naussica
Porco Rosso
Kiki's
Princess Mononoke
special mentions to Castle of Cagliostro and Whisper of the Heart

>melodrama
When will this meme die? Any show that takes itself remotely seriously is automatically slapped with "melodrama" because it doesn't have le funny comedy and fan service galore

Dude, it's shit. Take a hint. We're talking about big boy anime in this thread, the 2 most influential anime films of all time and other amazing and influential works. That's just not either of them.

no fuck you

Anything with romance is a no go because it makes me sad. I really liked Howl's Moving Castle though, and I'm pretty sure that was a romance.

>Kiki's Delivery Service
>Porco Rosso
>Howl's Moving Castle
These are the top three Miyazaki movies. Cute couples that end up together and all involve air travel.

Howl's is objectively a pretty weak Ghibli, which is to be expected since it's a loose novel adaptation instead of an actual original screenplay. I often see Porco Rosso highly rated though I'm not sure why, it was very forgettable for me. I couldn't say what it was about at all, except it had that ugly pork MC.

>howls is weak
it's purest magical adventure (for teenage girls), not being original didn't hurt it at all. the US reception was fucking garbage because all ghibli eng dubs are tied at literally the worst.
>Porco
it's another high quality installment of what miyazaki does best but with adults this time.

I warmed up to Porco after my second watch. The whole "good ole days" message resonated with me and I liked that they leave you hanging on if they get together in the end.
Howl's is weak in some spots but I like its wonky magic shit more than what Spirited Away has going for it. Plus Howl and Sophie are a better couple.

I've never seen a miyazaki film, should this be my first?

That isn't Gladiator

it might ruin you for the rest of them, it's significantly better than most. Castle in the Sky is probly best introductory thing. It's great but not great-est.

Ponyo isn't a bad movie, but you should start with the first one I ever saw.

Even normalfags love spirited away, I'm not sure I want to start with that. So I've narrowed it down to Ponyo, Kiki's and Castle in the Sky for the more patrician's approach. Also those ones interest me more.

So I should start with Kiki's? Is it objectively better than Spirited away?

you sound like a hipster redditor so you'll love them.

go ahead and watch spirited away if you want, it's not very good. beloved, but pretty shit. Kikis is fine too. There's a lot of different target audiences, not all the same tone or style.

Kiki's and Spirited Away aren't really in the same vein. They're both good for different reasons. Kiki's is more SOL while Spirited is more whimsical.

Your Name is fucking hot garbage.
I teared up during that movie, not from crying but yawning.

user I'm trying to be a hipster on Zig Forums not reddit, stop this bully

It was alright in my opinion but the only other Gibi movie I watched was the one where a bunch of Forrest spirits and humans have some war or whatever and the spirits lose and become retarded I guess.
