Out of curiosity pipe convinced Kabu to buy a house in Tank in order to observe him and shield him from the other Tankers. Natsume convinced Kabu to keep on living and eventually take up the Mantle of savior. I'd say Natsume is likely more important to him, but he will want to save both of them.
