Yes it is. And Anthy is the sexiest girl.
Anthy is the most complex character in anime
Bump
she's not complex, i just hate her :)
does it get better? 12 eps in and everything apart from the animation sucks and the nice animation is reused
A lot of those screencaps are Hosoda
Does today's anime industry have the manpower and talent to produce an anime like Utena again?
You're just a retard.
Thankfully having half of every episode be stock footage is something that isn't common these days.
Nope
He is really talented, sad his films aren’t that good
>does it get better?
It gets better as you keep (re)watching
Yeah but not the ambition
it doesn't have people willing to cover the cost of an entire studio's wages on risky art for art's sake. if you don't have that all you get is capitalist anime about toys and masturbation aids
>half of every episode
This is fucking bullshit, though. All the consistent stock footage:
>Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku
>Sword-pull
>in a few episodes, the duel choreography is repeated
>the crack the egg scene (only first arc)
That’s about it, then in some episodes the same sequences are used when Utena and Anthy have their night time conversations.
>manpower
Yeah, there are talented artists and animators. The question is money and creative freedom
>talent
Maybe. Again, the main trouble is funding and animation, because high-budget art may not sell and because high-detail anime is hard to animate.
Episode 22/23 are truly incredible
Agreed.
If you're not digging it, I would just stop now. I was drawn in by Utena right from the get-go. There's a really nice balance of comedy and the "deeper" stuff in the first arc of Utena. The first time I watched it, I was laughing a ton, especially at Nanami's antics with the animals in episode 4, and when the girls repeatedly get chased by the elephants in episode 6. And then Miki's whole thing where he's desperately trying to relive his distorted, rose-colored memories with his sister really resonated with me.
I kept track of the number of times that the Zettai Unmei sequence was shown during my last watch. If I remember correctly, it was shown in just under half of the episodes, so the people who complain about it are exaggerating a lot. Not to mention that the music changes three times, and the sequence itself completely changes when the elevator appears.
It gets better at the second arc, still dropped it tho
revue starlight isn't utena, but it is like utena
Meant episode 8, not 6. Whoops.
We've already got stuff like Utena within the last 5 years (Flip Flappers and Revue Starlight).
Didn’t Utena have a really small budget?
Revue Starlight's made by somebody who worked under the director of Utena, so it makes sense.
This just looks like a shitty shaft rip off
no.
Too gay didn't watch fuck you
I fucking love Juri. Also, I've only watched it once but what did the finger pointing mean?
Ironic shitposting is still shitposting
I think it’s just a way to put us in Nemuro’s mindset and show us what he is focusing in
I really really liked this anime but I watched it high so I don't remember anything
Rewatching is even better user
The funny thing Utena was made on a relatively limited budget. That's why there's so much reused footage and other techniques to reduce costs. The ways they find to work around budget limitations to do more with less are actually pretty impressive.
Be papas reunion when?
I wish more artsy weirdos would come together to make interesting shit. I guess there's no place for that in 2020s anime.
