Shingeki no Kyojin. If you don't think it's a masterpiece I'll just assume you're a troll trying to make me angry AND SUCCEEDING.
You see, it has all the best genres. I like apocalyptic stories, and this is a world with giant zombies.
I like mechas, this has meat mechas. Humanity at stake, but also human stakes since it turns into a military story with in-fighting. Let's not even get into whatever genre the timeskip is, it becomes a gritty political dark military drama with superpowers and depression.
And all of those different attributes I named should be liked by anyone who considers themselves a human being. Romance, action, drama, HORROR (how? somehow they also crammed this forgotten anime genre in here), mysticism, science, it's a blend of everything good, and it's well done.
The same anime that has this nationalistic opening also has the best horror ending.

That's such a beautiful range. So if someone just says they don't feel like watching it because "it's too popular" "edgy" "lmao eren just screams, flat characters I don't like it", that's just like shitting on Elvis or Michael Jackson. Some stuff you just gotta accept it's good.

I'd also argue that while reading this may look like bad writing, Isayama knows how to go from one setting to another without it feeling like an asspull
