Seriously, unironically, when the fuck does this shit get good? What do people like about this? I'm really trying to read it.

It's shonen. For young boys
I've read it since it started, but I'd hardly rate as one of my favorite stores and wouldn't give a shit if Oda croaked

Chapter 1. If you don't like it drop it, it's that simple.

If you still hate it after Alabasta, drop it

It goes from good to epic, and remains in the epic zone. Oda is the master of plot twist

alabasta was good, but whenever i rewatch or read it i start from water 7

Alabasta (chapter 100) to the end of Water 7 (chapter 321) is the good part.

from alabast all the way to time skip, then after merman arc the doflamingo arc picks back up again, i also liked whole cake island

What fucking plot? Literally everything that happens in the One Piece world gets offscreened and we only get to see reaction faces while people talk about some vague event or a newspaper article

If you weren't charmed with at least the main character by the time Zoro joins, its probably not for you.

too long; didn't read

Based

>I'm really trying to read it.
stopped reading here

That's still plot you stupid fuck. One Piece would go to chapter 4000 if we actually got to see everything.

Arlong Park arc (starts in volume 8) is where it starts getting really good, and it mostly gets better from there.

What would have been so wrong with a single chapter focusing on Shanks and the Gorosei, or a few more chapters of the Reverie, rather than six months of extended Odenwank and even more Run Piece and filler characters?

It's charming from the start and becomes one of the best shonen series' out there around the time Mihawk shows up, then mostly stays there outside the occasional dip for an arc.

One Piece is special because a journey story that's lasted a thousand chapters at this point. It's a treasure island story spanning an entire globe. Nothing like it has ever existed in the graphic novel space and likely never will exist again, the mix of its premise, style, longevity and popularity has made it a one of a kind experience. Especially if you're someone who's been with the crew since the series was first localized here in 2003.
It has a lot of failings, don't get me wrong. If you're reading it for the plot, complex characters or cool battles you're going to have a miserable time. But as a series of novel locales and setpieces, and the sheer sense of adventure it conveys, it's unrivaled.

The Oden flashback was longer than reverie and all that was accomplish was felating Oden and making me somehow like him less when I didn't care for him at all.

Oden is the single worst character in the series due to his all consuming influence on the story and the amount of focus he gets

If you don't like One Piece by the end of Aarlong Park, then you have a low IQ. I don't know what else to say.

I mean its like asking when math starts making sense when you are retarded

Arlong. If you don't like it by the end of Arlong, drop it.

By the Baratie arc I was already on board for the long journey, but if you finish the Alabasta arc and still don't like it, there is no reason to continue.

>have hated it for years on end
>can't bring myself to drop it thanks to sunk cost
Somebody free me from this hell

Weak willed
I dropped this turd of a manga during dressrosa

Chapter 1. One Piece was never bad until Dressrosa.

Even Dressrosa is fine when you go back and read it in a couple sittings rather than stretched out over 2 years of publication.

>What do people like about this?
It has probably the best world building out of any shonen.

>dude if you read the arc in one setting, suddenly all the stupid plot points like birdcage and sabo, disappear
Ah yes, my favorite cope

the sad part is they don't, the reader just spends less time thinking about the stupid ideas
saying one piece works better in bulk is literally admitting you have to turn your brain off to enjoy it

I said fine, not great.
It's still got plenty of more enjoyable aspects like the toy factory, and Doflamingo is still one of the best villains to date.
