When does it get good and why is it popular? I have just completed the Yorknew arc and the story is quite disappointing...

The Yorknew arc was said to be the best arc in HxH so when I completed it, I was disappointed. It doesn't stand out as anything special and I do not like the phantom troop. There is no reason for me to like them as they are sociopathic criminals, yet I do not like the good guys either. Killua feels like a budget Vegeta to me, even if they aren't that similar, who only exists helps Gons character growth. Gon is the naive and pure hero who will probably suffer misfortune later on to get any character growth and Kurapika is the guy who wants revenge so there isn't anything interesting about him.

You don't have to like them, and sure they're criminals, but that's not really a problem. Togashi did a decent to good job in establishing a few of the group dynamic, and fleshing out the group as a whole in the arc.

I never saw someone compare Killua and Vegeta like that, and I guess you meant the rival characters. Anyway they're friends, they play of each other, both of them help each other grow in different aspects. Sure his character biggest reason for existent is for Gon, but not simply to help him grow.

I agree with Kurapika not being that interesting, but I do enjoy his character, and how he's always never let his revenge really turn him into a bad person.

But overall all you really told me about the yorknew arc is that you were expecting something special, you don't like the Phantom Troupe because they're criminals, and you don't like avenger type characters.

HxH sucks because it doesn't have a genre. It's literally Togashi writing whatever he feels like it on any day of the week.

What the fuck did you expect then some kind of Evangelion? HxH didn't stole from Dragonball like they were trying to hide it, Gon's whole character is a criticism of Goku and there many other references to other WSJ manga in the series, HxH is a experimental Shounen made for Shounen fans, so if you haven't read classics like DB and YYH and are not a Shounen fan you never really truly appreciate it.

no, but the way it's hyped up I expected it to at least be better than naruto. I hate when people say shit like the plagiarism was SO BLATANT or EVERYONE WAS DOING IT as some like excuse for copying dragon ball. Tons of manga copied dragon ball, borrowed elements, based things off of it directly, but naruto and HxH did this by far more than any other manga ever and in a much more blatant way than anything else, for that reason alone these shows are already automatically second rate shonen, not to mention they just suck because they suck
