Is Mion immune or the main story just didn't have the occasion to show a world where she becomes crazy too?

Mion is so stable and loving that she canonically never goes crazy in any world Rika observed

All the other main cast members have some sort of major psychological fault independent of the syndrome. If you're not already a little crazy the syndrome doesn't do anything.

level with me, does the original hold up? or is it just "wow little anime girls but then messed up things happen, this is shocking because I'd never seen it before" stuff like madoka

It is a very well done story with a lot of character drama. The anime does lean into the shock value at sometimes inappropriate times like with the Satako torture bit but overall it’s one of the few edgy tales that holds up very well

Terrible design, DEEN rena was very cute, but not in a puffed up moeblob way.
What has the world come to, i am forced to hold DEEN favorably in a comparison.

The anime does tend to emphasize the violence and shock factor but there’s more to it.
I highly recommend reading the VN which definitely “holds up”.

If you mean the original as in the source material, it absolutely does
If you mean the original as in the DEEN version, however, it really depends on your tastes. It certainly has a very mid-to-late 00's feel to it

I enjoyed the chapters 1-4 of the visual novel. Chapter 4 with Shion was my favorite. I was on Rena's chapter but I dropped it cause of the cuck shit and that the ending was the beginning scene. I saw the anime already, so I know what happens to her family but it just felt boring compared to the other arcs

The original VN sprites were drawn by someone who has absolutely no idea how to draw and made a rough estimation of what an anime character should look like.
PS2 sprites were pretty good
