Plot A is about Retsuko becoming an idol to pay off a debt, and ends up being able to sing death metal and be very popular for it
Plot B is about Inoi, a cute girl that becomes a love interest for Haida who he actually likes a lot
Minor plot C is about a stalker that is mad at Retsuko joining the idol group and shaking up the dynamic
It ends with Haida not being able to stop simping for Retsuko and ending up saving her from the Stalker trying to kill her, rejecting Inoi, and Retsuko leaving the idol group after paying her debt to avoid more drama in a stupid return to status quo ending where Haida confesses again and we get a sort of minor cliffhanger where they might be dating but are probably just friends again
Essentially it says fuck you to anyone that hoped for character development and the characters learning to move on.

Because (((Netflix))) knows it's popular and want to milk a season a year when this is the type of show that season 3 should have been the finale.
Problem is this formula with a reversal ending for the opposite of the choices Haida and Retsuko made would have been a great finale or second to last season, instead it's just going to piss everyone off.
S3 summary? That why I've been saying making it a full length is retarded,might as well go back to shorts and we get concentrated funny angry metal sperg out , but youre right. Its money after all.

Status quo is fine for 2-5min shorts anime but 12min shows should have progression with some kind of planned ending. No one is going to go into season 4 expecting any ending now except Retsuko being stressed and single while hiding her death metal karaoke habits, Haida being a depressed alcoholic still simping for Retsuko, Fenneko being a single drama queen that is purely platonic with Haida, and no one else really mattering.
It was fine for season 1. Season 2 felt lackluster but the failed relationship at least explored Retsuko as a character way more, but season 3 just feels pointless. Inoi should have been given way more character development at the bare minimum
What is it with comedy series that have decent characters with lots of potential but the writers are addicted to "lol depressing status quo is god"? Osomatsu-san suffers from this too. It gets so predictable that it hurts to be invested.

Not that user but in the latter case when a comedy/gag series has a bit more depth it can be really frustrating. Also I'm pretty sure there are comedies that actually do have progression, I think its just a trend again to write "... but at the last second, nothing matters trololol"

Nearly every long-running sitcom is plagued with that. I guess there's some weird belief if it progresses too much, it might fall outside the initial premise and unable to capture new audiences.

Yes, but that is also kind of depressing at the same time and I still can't help but feel bad for him. I know so many people, including myself at one point in my life, who actively chose to be miserable and continue self-destructive tendencies because they are so afraid of change and commitment to anything.
