They add more personality and more character to the cast. There is weird filler at times that actually fixed some of the early mistakes of Togashi at the start to make the arcs flow better. Hisoka vs Gon in the 2011 version was a joke compared to 99.
Believe it or not the animation, soundtrack, and cinematography are much better in the 99 version compared to the rush job in 2011. Also the series keeps a much darker, and mature tone (like Chimera Ants from 2011 version) from the very start.
Its a much better experience, but takes longer.

Personally I have seen both versions and am going in 99 one again after my re-watch of 2011, and enjoy the comfy feeling much more in the 99 one. Also I will forever prefer the ending to the 99 version compared to 2011, duo to how ambitious they left it, and there was no shit election arc to ruin the momentum. Also ofc, the consistent tone. I was never a fan of how childish they made it look with the 2011 version, and the way they changed Gon and Killua to shotas to pander to the fujoshi. Just personal nitpick tho.

Those don't tell you how the 99 version has am uch stronger start, and they actually bother to introduce Kite at the beginning and make Gon's aunt, and his whole situation, sympathetic with depth to it.

Who knows. 1999 made the characters more generic. And they gave Kurapika boobs too. Which is why 99fags are obsessed with Kurapika being female even though it was kept ambiguous in the manga.

Because when they started the 99 anime, Togashi had never colored Hisoka officially. So they just chose a color. But they fixed it during, so he just randomly changes color.

Not always the best argument. Some times a director´s creative vision is what separates a mediocre source from a superior adaptation. That´s true for Psycho, it´s true for Ghost in the shell and it´s true for HxH 99.
