you will never get an autograph from miyazaki

Haven't seen it since I was a kid. Does it still hold up?

its a nice little story about a magical world with a surreal dreamy feel and not being able to wake up, that does it so well it manages to somehow defeat miyasaki's autism of trying to turn every damn movie into a story about a girl falling in love, this time with a dumb dragon boy.

>spends 20 hours rewatching the same movie in a single day

>not watching it in ten different players at once

>2x speed
>set the ten players in different minutes
>your brain gets the entire movie in 9 minutes

it's a subtle and powerful anticapitalist movie

>10th time today
Oh okay OP, for sure

I remember watching it a lot as a kid (with english dub). Saw it for the first time with the original voices and yes, it holds up very well in my opinion. You recognize a lot of subtleties that you couldn't when you were younger.

He just means today is the tenth times he’s watched it, not that he watched it ten times in one day you fucking retard

i don't get the ending. did she really forget everything?

I thought it was about sex slavery

The implication was that ALOT of time had passed, nothing implied she forgot

It can't be that long. Their car was still operational and just was a little dusty inside. It would've been 2-3 days max

It's been a long time, but I think it's neither. Chihiro is starting to forget by the time the film ends, but at the same time the events did happen and she does remember them, more or less. Like a dream that felt very real.

The entire film is like a poetic metaphor of the loss of innocence and childhood.
You can't cling to it forever in order to grow up and move on, but at the same time it's become a part of you and you don't forget it.

who cares

My sister is obsessed with this movie. We watch it almost every week and it's driving me insane. She doesn't even want to watch other Ghibli movies, just this one.

I had the same problem years ago but with the cat returns instead. this lasted for about 6 months.

With some of the shit people say here, I wouldn't be surprised if someone actually does this.

Because it's only the only Ghibli films to not have characters with annoyingly 2D personalities with no growth or exploration. Ghibli is eye candy for the most part. Pretty but of very little substance.

How old is she? I apparently watch Dumbo everyday after nursery when I was a toddler.

She's 14 and getting into anime and K shit now. It's a bit odd for her to get into a kids show so late but we didn't get to watch much cartoons when we were younger. I'm hoping she forgets this movie in favour of some other show, but if not I'll have to find a way to keep her away from anime.

Some kids stuff never looses it's charm, but I'm not sure about fixating on one thing. It might just be a 'comfortable' movie to watch.

Why is there a box of kleenex on the bed...?

I think it might just be autism at this point. She hardly pays attention to it so it might just be white noise to talk over.
Do you not have kleenex near your bed?

It's kino cause it teaches little girls to grow a pair by thowing them into what it is ultimately a hellscape for the little bitch at the start of the movie and, with the help of friends and self growth, to overcome their fears.

It's shit. The only good movie is Ponyo.

this is bait but i like it

My second favorite Miyazaki film after Naussica

>I remember watching it a lot as a kid (with english dub)

I did the same, but I found that it was way more that the Jap dialogue just has way more depth to it than the dub does. The dub basically turns the whole thing into a kids movie (which it already is, but you know what I mean) with a random nonsense plot. It's just far more nuanced and melancholy in tone subbed and has a much more oppressive and serious atmosphere where the English dubbing makes half the characters just act silly.
