What a retarded movie

What a retarded movie.

Do people just like it because of the animation and cyberpunk setting or what?

yes

The movie is pretty shitty but the manga is really atmospheric. Not exactly a "deep" story but it's still pretty entertaining.

The same kind of classic as ghost in the shell. The atmosphere and style is inspirational, but the plot doesn't matter

I assume the animation and setting were groundbreaking for its time. You're right that the story is pretty much rubbish.

Alot of detail crammed into every scene, so you notice new things plus the animation is great.

The manga's story is unironically even dumber, might have one of the top 5 worst endings of any series

The art is insane, ten times better than anything produced in the 2010s. It might look as goofily fluid as some poser animes look nowadays, but it was a know-how that's since been lost. They produced a quality of work unparalleled by what is made these days even with ten times the budget.

If you wanna enjoy the story read the manga, however animation and aesthetic wise it's a visual masterpiece.

It's got a fantastic story.

yes that's all you need to like a movie

>Babby's first anime movie
Nostalgiafags are the worst

its worth at least one rewatch per year

How is Akira cyberpunk? Looked like any regular metropolis from the 90s to me.

high tech low life

Akira’s importance and quality aren’t up for debate

Move along you low testosterone faggots

But how was it high tech? Were bikes not invented until the 2000s?

those bikes were super fuckin high tech but also kaneda uses them to charge a fucking laser gun to shoot psychic cyborg.

That still doesn't qualify as cyberpunk

qualifies as both high tech and low life, thats all you need. theres computers and shit too but those aren't interesting.

you dont know what cyberpunk is supposed to be

Are you autistc? Srsly

I like it mainly because of Tetsuo. The idea of delinquents building their own world in a corrupt tightly-controlled modern society is refreshing, especially when the said delinquents best the very government on accident by not even trying. It raises the concept of youth bands above the authority of a modern government, thus it's a masterpiece.

Yes, it's beautiful

they also sort of best the rebels on accident

True.

Vapid compared to GitS. Looks amazing though

They didn't invent neon lights and skyscrapers until the 2000s? nice fan art.

>Do people just like it because of the animation and cyberpunk setting or what?
Yes but the animation is not just "good" is legendary at this point, the movie is from fucking 1988 and 32 years later it stills hold up, it's incredible.

You don't know what cyberpunk is.
