Except Goku started off a weakling as far as Saiyans go and still had to work his way up to be the best on Earth. Getting trounced several times along the way even as he was attempting to do that. Training his ass off every single day, even before the 21st Budokai he had to reminded that rest is important and to not work himself to death as a result.

I watched the entirety of cell saga and the Buu arc, probably more but that's what I actually remember watching. Other than cell evolving into perfect cell and Buu seeming unstoppable because chocolate, I never felt any tension at all. I knew the good guys would win, I wasn't hyped when Cell went hard and blew shit up, it just felt mundane as fuck. That's probably the worst part of the series for me, it's supposed to be fantastical and amazing but it feels mundane, like I'm watching a show about organizing a file cabinet
