I too enjoy reading fanfiction

When? When did MT start getting TL'd here? Whenever that was.

bamp

I've tried, but the prose is always so bad. I need something more literary.

What's the best site to order light novels?

Light Novels are absolute garbage, and this bitch looks like a whore.

What is it about lolis that elevates a girl's sexiness by 1000%?

I don’t know, but Milim has a good amount of ryona art.

This, light novels are worse than children's chapter books.

What compels a man to want to hurt such a graceful being?

Some of them have decent prose.
Just that the majority are basically fanfiction tier, because Japanese publishers realized it was profitable to just publish web novels with already established fan-bases, do the bare minimum in polishing, and then print them on the cheapest paper possible.
99% of them are meant to be read once in a single sitting, and immediately thrown away, like with magazines.

Aroun the time Gamers have ended. Haven't checked it a long time though.

Another thing you guys are forgetting is that prose in one language may not work when translated in another language. The sentence structure is completely different, and while the translation may get the meaning across, the stylistic quality may go down.

What's the reason behind her getting hit in the stomack?

So basically even we could write one? If the bar is that low. Then just gotta figure out where to post or share it.

I guess it’s a weak spot or something.

How many people who whine about LN prose are actually fluent in Japanese? The only way your opinion on Japanese prose could matter is if you can understand it fully and can compare it to other Japanese works.

That's entirely on the translator. It's not surprising that LN publishers and distributors would cheap out on that front. There are many literary works that are hard to read in translation, but it's almost never for lack of quality. If you have a good translator then nearly any kind of work can be reinterpreted faithfully and gracefully.

A disjoint may come from the fact that the style intended for a pop-media audience in Japan does not come across well translated, but I think that's just a matter of taste, seeing as how many people genuinely like the stuff.

/lit/ writes a book every now and then, though it's admittedly just retarded shitposting. But yeah, if we had a running thread, Zig Forums could probably churn out a LN of moderate quality.

Unironically LNs have better prose than any other young adult shit in any other country. I fucking hate the "hey look I know how to use a thesaurus so I'm going to over-detail literally everything in the most pretentious way possible" writing style that everyone else uses.

There’s a huge difference between translating something and having linguistic skills. Everyone here knows english, but not everyone can construct a paragraph in a way that can be considered scholarly.

We all know the stories of Shakespeare, but how many of us could rewrite them (using modern language) in such a way to maintain a high quality?

hory shit
I took the LN pill literally like a month and a half ago and in that time I've read all on Rokka no Yuusha, Worldend, and I have 2 more volumes left to go for Konosuba.
I can never go back to manga after this. Any recommendations?

Don’t take the source pill anons, you’ll just end up hating anime for being the inferior medium.

Well that's exactly what I'm saying when I say it's all on the translator. You have to have a high degree of proficiency with both languages, and that's all before we even start considering literary talent on its own accord. You are effectively rewriting a work when you translate it, and any sort of fictive writing demands talent for quality.

I agree, and I think that’s something that a lot of people don’t consider when they say that a source material is terribly written.

This. I don't care what the fuck I'm reading, as long as it's well-written. Get some decent pacing, don't make everything so blatant it slaps you in the face, and fucking translate it like a normal western novel. Don't translate it word for word and sentence for sentence because their novels are written different because their language is different.
Things like:
>"....."
>She was uncertain how to respond.
>"....Taki.......?"
>He said, delayed and questioning. Why wasn't she responding?
>"........"
>"ne taki..."
>He asked once again. He was feeling more frantic.
Would never be published. The words themselves are as bad as fanfiction, and that paragraph styling is avoided for a reason in English. Put in some fucking effort to translate the work like most other Japanese novels get translated. Murakami and Kirino have similarly styled passages in their books but you never see their translators just translating sentences word for word. You have to put in effort to repackage things when switching languages, and LN translators do not do this.
t. editor/writerfag

Not when reading garbage like Slime, I assure you.

Fucking this, they're so bad that I'd rather read western YA novel than nip tryhard garbage.

I don't think I've seen this amateur paragraph styling in an official translation of a LN. Do you have some examples? I know a lot of unofficial translations do it but I don't expect any quality from those.

2014 after the MAD shield translation, for webnovels. I dont remember first Light Novel probably Index, or Zero no Tsukaima

Chinese WN > Japanese WN > Korean WN

The only good Chinese WN I've read is LotM and the Amber Sword. Pretty much everything else is derivative wuxia trash.
