Alita/Gunnm

Just Started Last Order. Is it Better or worse than the original series?

So Zig Forums doesnt like good manga?

First half is as good as the original but when it gets to Zott it get bogged down in typical tournament problems. That being said Zott is fucking wild and has a lot of great moments except with Alita of all people. Also her clone/brother Sechs ends up being the best character with 10/10 character development

It's different. I'd say overall worse but it's still a fun enough read, especially when you're not forced to wait forever between releases

first few bits feel like the original. but the tournament just feels so dragged out for an alita story. the new characters are all pretty fucking great and they fit in very well with the story.

Clone brother? Sounds awesome.
Along as the panels in some sloggy tournament are cool then at leas theres some good art to look foward to.
Biggest reason i started reading, i figured two finished series are enough to get me invested into a world. I loved the first one.

It has that dick monster that ejaculates at almost lightspeed, so there's that at least.

Hit or miss for some people, it became shouneny compared to the first series but still pretty good. It starts off slow though and introduces a lot of fun and great characters and tons of world/space building. Definitely worth continue reading.

At the very beginning with chip brains and both sides dehumanizing the other was unironically fucking kino and was the first cyberpunk story that lived up to the genre's reputation of existential mindfucking for me. And Gally is still a cute. Just read it.

At some point Desty Nova becomes the only good character

It's different. It starts pretty similar to the original then a tournament arc starts and it gets pretty weird. There's a great reveal early on that is worth getting to, afterwards feel free to drop it if you stop enjoying it.

Desy and Sechs

What about Mars Chronicle? I think I'm all in at this point, just curious what you guys think.

It's good on its own two feet easy. But at this point I think its release schedule is worse than Yotsuba, HxH, or Berserk.

LO is pure shit, forget it exists and stick to the first one.

i've only read the first volume and it's alright. it has a pattern where it spends a few chapters in the past, and then some in the present. still not as good as the original manga but it's worth a try reading it.

I'd say narratively it's a lot more polished, and the characters are almost all a fucking riot. The only places it would fall short is, as the others said, pacing in some parts, but if you're binging it it's not too bad.

Starts seriously good, then it goes into a Shounen Battle Tournament and never recovers.

I stopped reading it to wait for it to finish. The release schedule is bad. Don't read it until you finish Last Order because it's tied to what happens immediately at the the end of it. But, I would recommend not picking it up until it ends. It's also about Alita's past that she didn't know about for all of the original series and LO. It starts pretty early in her past, so despite being the main character and very story important, Alita herself doesn't do much. I might be wrong if the story has progressed from when I last read it.

The tournament arc was not that good, but I loved the reveal that mentions

worse. a tournament arc and vampire subplot that have nothing to do with the first series overarching plot. luckily the mars series is back on track

Sechs' development alone makes this well worth the read for me, I enjoy that Kishiro continued to let Desty Nova just do whatever the fuck. LO pushes the limits of the concept technologically enhanced martial combat. The extended meditation on Karma and leadership is quite awesome too. Mars Chronicle is just as enjoyable but in a different way.

>What about Mars Chronicle?

As someone who was a gigantic fan of the original and LO....I haven't read it. I mean I skimmed a bit but I hear tell it's been in a giant ass flash back mode for a long time now about little gally and I really just would rather get to the point.

Sounds good, thanks guys.
How long is mars chronicle supposed to be? If the release schedule is so bad sounds like it could be years before its finished

Gunnm is not good.

Gunnm is kino

We don't know and have nothing to even guess what it could be

Who the fuck do i believe??

Yourself. Read some of it and form your own opinion

It has a Berserk release schedule and it’s really not worth the wait

Does Zig Forums like Movielita?

decent adaptation of the ova. although they really shouldn't have shoved motorball in places where it didn't belong in the story.

Haha
Idk

I liked it a lot more than 99% of live action adaptations of manga. Not perfect by any means, the writing was a bit rough around the edges at times, but the narrative and visuals were on point. And the tech was pretty cool.
Personally I didn't mind the motorball too much. They never could have gotten to that stuff in a single movie, they likely knew a sequel was unlikely, and it's such a cool part of the worldbuilding I'm glad it got adapted.

Damn i really liked the motorball sequences, i was afraid we werent even gonna see it because I had heard it only went to Yugo's death and i didn't know they were gonna mix the story beats up.
The jasugan cameo was cool but for some reason i cant imagine that dude a tanned godlike chi-bender.

All that budget and it still wasn’t the live action adaptation to outdo riki oh.

>How long is mars chronicle supposed to be?
Couldn't tell you. Even once the flashback ends there's no telling how long the story going forward will be. LO rand for like 10 years though.

Eeeeeeeh, I don't know if I can fairly judge it. It wasn't as awful as I was expecting but for how long it was in dev hell I still really can't think of anything it does do that would have made it worth watching over the other media.

Shit that looks dope, worth the watch?

10/10 for the background and scenery. I'm fine with how they handled Alita. Their issue was that they were cramming in way to many arcs all at once while also rewriting some stuff mostly to get Desty involved sooner. I disliked the Jasugan cameo choice of character. I wanted my tanned chi master. It would have been far better handled if they could have done the new trend of just turning it into a TV series with 1hour episodes on a streaming service, but there's no way they would have had the budget for it with how everything was done. And we're probably not going to get any more of the movie version since it was expensive as fuck to make and didn't do too well in the box office .

It’s really worth a watch it’s an extremely entertaining movie

It's just another cool edition to the Alita catalogue.
The manga is a fun joyride
The OVA is really cool
And the movie has sick action and alita is cute as fuck.

The movie is better

They already shooting jasugan test footage.
A sequel is happening.
Believe it.

Im no discord tranny, but I really miss /alita/ those were some fun times.

That's fantastic. I'm kind of surprised it made enough money to let them go ahead and make the next one. I really want to see how they handle Desty's bit about trying to scientifically prove the existence of Karma and the see if it can be broken
