I'm honestly surprised that he didn't call Hyoudou on his bullshit, saying that the paper was folded and therefore was tampered and should be nullified. Seeing the protag suffer permanent injury is also a breath of fresh air, even if heartwrenching

well he actually didn't notice at the time, and it wasn't until he was in the car being driven away that he even thought to check the paper
He was top high off his retarded tissuebox gamble to think about anything
The paper being folded wasn't against the rules, it was only invalid if it had been visibly crumpled into a ball.
>permanent injury
He actually gets his fingers sewed back although iirc he mentions at some point that they are not as functional as they used to be
Its not cheating if you get caught after the gamberu.
Why is part 1 so overwhelmingly better than the other parts? The gambles were nice and short and Kaiji has an actual arc. The other parts just cant compete especially the dumpster fire that was part 4.
>waiting 90 chapter for an obvious betrayal with 3 characters i dont care about
Brainlet. Part 3 is the best by far
it wouldn't have mattered even if he'd recognized the trick. He knew they were monitoring his heartrate during ecard but it wasn't like he could just be HEY YOU ARE CHEATING and back out. Not to mention Hyoudou caught him cheating with the tissue box anyway, so how exactly was it unfair?
>Part 3 is the best by far
Part 3 is everything wrong with the series post part 2. The gamble is solid and Muroko was a fun villain but they do absolutely nothing with Kaijis character and it goes on for so long. Also Miyoshi and Maedas betrayal was bullshit
>they do absolutely nothing with Kaijis character
Absolute brainlet
>Also Miyoshi and Maedas betrayal was bullshit
wrong
They really dont do anything with Kaijis character. Prove me wrong instead of insulting me
Part 4 is kino, the new characters work because you don't know how willing fkmt is to kill them off
For the first time Kaiji overcomes his challenge and learns that trust isn't the end of everything, he just doesn't get ANDOUED this time. The part also shows Kaiji's shortcomings: he's great at quick and desperate thinking but can't commit to long term growth, hence why even Sakazaki turns against him. He's also a bit prideful and shy. There's a lot in Kaiji's monologues showing his struggles and how this minefield mahjong is the embodiment of the one win he desperately lacks, along with his 45ers brothers. Kaiji winning really shows how far he's come after all of this.
Based
Get gassed part 1 brainlet
God I love Dezaki shots, they’re works of art.
All parts are good, but Kaiji reached its peak with part 3 and 4.
Everyone in this thread should go watch One Outs.
The single most crucial moment in Part 3, the very thing that clues Kaiji in on the fact that he's being played, is that he. in a sudden moment of instinctive clarity, compares Prez to Tonegawa and Hyoudou. This moment wouldn't be possible without his previous victories and losses.
Part 3 shows just how far Kaiji has come as a result of his previous gambles, but that he's also nowhere near at the point where he's finally learned his lesson.
>nowhere near at the point where he's finally learned his lesson.
He will never learn his lesson. He is a gambler, that is the point of the series.
Akagi understands humans at a fundamental level, he uses cunning and an innate genius to cheat and manipulate his way to victory. He does it for the thrill, but he understands the way people work.
And he can lose.
Around the midway point of the series he is doing serious gambles but has no money to his name. He had gambled it all away or been cheated out of it somehow.
But if he has a financial foodhold he is a scary beast.
Compare that to Kaiji. if Akagi is the superego Kaiji is the Id. He does everything according to pleasure, according to 'feel'. Sure he has moments of greatness, but these are often thrown away because he does not look past the present.
Gambling is an addiction, it is a state of mind. These shows do such a good job of showing that to the viewer. It lets you get into the mindset of people that would risk their lives or huge amounts of money. It shows you the highs and the lows.
A great moment in the series is when Kaiji gets sent away to the mining facility. What does he do with his first paycheck? Blows it all on beer and food. He wants to feel good. He is the Id. He is a gambler.
>Akagi understands humans at a fundamental level, he uses cunning and an innate genius to cheat and manipulate his way to victory. He does it for the thrill, but he understands the way people work.
Actually, the point of the epilogue is that while Akagi has an incredibly deep understanding of the way people behave on a rational level, he has little to no understanding of how people act in social context. That's why his pal gives him the whole speech about Akagi not being able to "catch the waiter's attention" while at a restaurant. Akagi can read your every move and manipulate you by playing on your (ir)rationality, but he has absolutely no charisma. No way of charming you or making you like him.
I always got the impression that him losing all his money was supposed to play into that mystery of how Akagi actually functions when he's not gambling. I don't think he lost it gambling, it's likely he just spent it all on random shit or gave it away on a whim.
how would he prove that Hyoudou was the one who folded it though?
it would be his Kaiji's word against his
For me, it's part5. Is the one that fucks more with Kaiji as a the enormous moralfag he is and how for the first fucking time it pays off.
One Outs feels a lot more like Akagi than Kaiji. I never EVER felt that the blond guy could lose. There is so much wanking of his genius is almost funny.
Still fun to watch but not nearly as thrilling as Kaiji without spoilers.
The point of Kaiji, or part of the point at least, is that even though he is a massive fucking loser, he has a hidden quality where he gets serious and functions at his highest whenever he's pushed to the brink of ruin or his lowest point. He doesn't even realize it himself and it's also probably why he likes gambling so much, it gets him to that lowest point. This shit is even reflected in Kaiji's theme:
youtube.com
It's all essentially building despair for the first 50 or so seconds until it reaches a breaking point and Kaiji supposedly reaches his best, exploding into that badass riff. This hidden quality and his empathy make him stand out from all the losers and snakes that surround him.
Yeah, he even acknowledges it himself. Truly the epitome of human trash.
I love him tho, he's a gamble junkie and yet he's got great morals, which often go against his way. That makes him very likeable, given that he's such a good fellow and yet so flawed.
Let's say I finish the anime, where should I pick up the manga from?
Tobaku Datenroku Kaiji (part 3)
Part 3, the infamous UNO arc. Anime adaptation did a very good job from what I have read in these threads so you can jump right onto it. FKMT krazy had it sorted in a way you would need to be a lazy retard to get lost, just look for part 3.
I don't know if they have their page still up tho, last I knew was that they went christian and felt that Kaiji was too heretic or something, so they don't translate it anymore. Still, they got as far as part 6.
>but he has absolutely no charisma
He does. He's a bit socially awkward but he's not an autismo.
>I don't think he lost it gambling, it's likely he just spent it all on random shit or gave it away on a whim.
Reread the ending of Ten. He always separated himself from too many possessions/success because he knew it'd trap him at some point.
To be fair, while Akagi partly does it for the thrill it's mostly because it connects with his philosophy about death and how it was always alongside him
Yeah. It's not that Kaiji is a hidden genius, it's more that he's a survivor. It's kinda similar to how accepting death allows Akagi to embrace something his opponents can't.

>He does. He's a bit socially awkward but he's not an autismo.
That's only during Ten. He eased up over time but in his youth he was absolutely an autismo.
Yeah sure a thing calling hyoudou after the game will make him go, haha u got me here take money.
