LINK oracles trashed

MakerDAO head of their oracles department just wrote a lengthy post trashing Chainlink’s oracle network.

Oh god this is too good to be true. Finally.Think ima buy a few maker now

Before the discord team shows up. FUCK LINK
FUCK SERGEY
FUCK JANNIES

guess 5 BTC goes a long way for Maker devs after their total oracle failure in March, sad

first AMPL and now this.

Everything he's criticizing has to do with the KYC'd hand curated oracles that Chainlink is running at present. Nobody claims these to be perfect or flawless. They are an intermediate step between beta testnet and a fully realized mainnet with implemented staking, collateralization and penality.

If Sergey were to address this piece he would probably openly agree on all points. This isn't FUD, it's just a description of the limitations that everyone knows Chainlink's current partial implementation has. It's like criticizing an Early Access game for not having all the bells and whistles yet.

Is it bad that I am here 75% of the time to watch the world burn.

So many biz lives depends on it and I love seeing hope diminish as they realize they are never going to make it

Cope harder fag

>MakerDAO oracles don't have to trust external data services
but that's the main usecase of chainlink. There's no point for oracles or smart contracts if you're not using external data services

If you read anything except this, you are a sucker taking a sales pitch. At least he was honest.

Key points:

-Maker and Chainlink are competitors. Why use a competitors oracles? Why would anyone use Maker oracles in that case?

-Chainlink owns the oracle contracts and there’s no guarantee of honest behaviour.

-Chainlink oracles use external data feeds as opposed to onchain feeds provided by various ETH projects (kyber, dydx etc). This opens a large attack vector.

-Chainlink as an organisation is a single point of failure as opposed to Maker’s DAO structure.

-Chainlink can operate a node under Maker’s DAO governance structure i.e. Chainlink becomes a MakerDAO feed.

I think the main point is that using Chainlink’s oracles takes money away from MakerDAO’s oracles. Kind of like Microsoft using iOS instead of Windows or something like that.

Chequed

But cognitive dissonance is so entertaining

It's all valid and their desire to change Chainlink to have a more limited is a natural effect from adoption. This isn't microsoft selling MS Office Suite to businesses. It's a tech capital venture that adjusts it's role per client need. It's an opportunity to see Chainlink weaknesses but not a demoralizing statement.

I think the main point is Maker’s oracle already failed hard and justed a bunch of their users and the dev has been coping ever since

5 seconds ago oracles weren’t even important

retard
nobody lost money because of makerdao oracles
the only person spreading this lie was marc zeller from aave probably a personal beef with some makerdao guys

Before i head to bed just want to say: the cope in this thread is real

Can't wait to see what the low iq schizos have to say about this

yeah i just imagined all those hapless retards begging maker for their money back after they got destroyed by faulty collateral auctions

Makerdao oracles:
running since December 2017
nobody ever lost money because of their failure (black thursday losses were a failure of liquidator bots)
decentralized - no single failure point

Chainlink oracles:
running since Q4 2019 (synthetix fiat pairs)
synthetix lost money because onions dev at chainlink confused the symbols between gold and silver
losses were filled by selling link.
fully centralized - failure point is whoever controls the master address that tells 'decentralized' nodes what data to fetch.

hoe about FUCK YOU NEVER SELLING

kek how much did Simeon pay for this?

NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LEAVE SERGEY ALOOOOOOOONNNEE!!!

pigeons coming home to roost

5 BTC was the going rate I believe

>Evidence of this can be found during Black >Thursday during which Chainlink’s >Oracleswent down for over 6 hours

oh nononono how come chainlink was down 6h when ETH was okay? MKR triple digit IQ is right again. This game is too easy, it feels like an open debate Trump on modafinil vs sleepy Biden

>dev for a product shills their product
>just trust us bro
haven't seen this before

This argument is exactly why I never bought chainlink. Turns out most people dgaf about this for now and just want a data feed on their chains, and if it is a centralized firm providing these — so be it.
Chainlink feels like an artifact of the old world of internet coming in to the new decentralized world and doing the same thing because it works. I agree with maker in spirit. If it is on blockchain, it should be decentralized. Period. However, the market and seemingly the vast majority of people think otherwise, at least for now.
I hope for the sake of all you holders that there is an actual decentralized mainnet coming for chainlink. If not, I’m afraid someone else will actually come in and do it — like maker is doing now...
We shall see.
