To use a phrase close to yours, infernal realm literally means Hell. That sounds scarier than shadow realm, what's so scary about shadows? Are you scared of the dark?

Nah, with shadow realm I always just imagined a purple void like the one used in the Yami no Games, and you floating there with maybe some ghosts spooking you.
That's like a gay, passive version of Hell.

Also I wish they had actually used "HELL" in canon. Imagine how fucking metal YuGiOh would be, as if it didn't look satanic enough already.

Well you have a point in there. If anything I always thought about the Shadow Realm as some sort of limbo were you're not dead but will always be there suffering and that definitely is worse than death.

Since all of this is supposed to be Egypt wouldn't the shadow world be akin to the Egyptian underworld rather than hell based on Christian beliefs.

I always imagined they're fed to the cenobites and the shadow realm is basically the labyrinth from hellraiser 2.

All the guys Yugi sends to the shadow realm would fail Anubis' test of virtue and have their heart eaten.
At least that's what I imagine.

Except for the fact that everyone and their mom can rescue you from the Shadow Realm with magic bullshit

I forget the movie so I don't remember what interpretation of anubis myths they went with for the villain.
