Shadow Realm sounds more ominous the Hell. Like with Hell, you pretty much already know what to expect there, but the Shadow Realm? What even is the Shadow Realm? It could be anything for all I know, but I will never know unless I go there.

Haven't there been many times they've depicted both in the franchise?
To use a phrase close to yours, infernal realm literally means Hell. That sounds scarier than shadow realm, what's so scary about shadows? Are you scared of the dark?
To an extent, yes.
Isn't the shadow realm explained to be basically hell in how it works i.e suffering for all eternity?
I believe so, but I'm talking about the name and how it sounds.
>you pretty much already know what to expect there
The only certain thing about hell is that if you go there, you'll suffer.
This is hell.
Nah, with shadow realm I always just imagined a purple void like the one used in the Yami no Games, and you floating there with maybe some ghosts spooking you.
That's like a gay, passive version of Hell.
Also I wish they had actually used "HELL" in canon. Imagine how fucking metal YuGiOh would be, as if it didn't look satanic enough already.
Now playing these occult cards and losing will send you to hell.
I think they just called it penalty game.
This frame was the peak of animation
I love evil Marik, he was such an entertaining psycho.
I have despair of the dark.
Best villain, best arc.
This shit literally doesn't exist in the japanese version. There's only Shadow Games which just means that the duelist will take real damage from attacks, and die.
Except when Marik sorta does send Mai to a shadow realm
can someone explain me the unique style with lots of shading to me??
i couldnt expect smth like this come out today.
It was called SOUL
That's an illusion penalty game.
"the next dimension" was very kino
>Are you scared of the dark?
I was freaked out pretty bad by this one cartoon (I think it was an old Looney Tunes) where the President heads of Mount Rushmore went from being normal and lifeless to suddenly talking for a couple seconds to make some weird joke I wouldn't have understood at that age, and I really felt the need to continue using a nightlight for a long time after that because I would get the feeling inanimate face like imagery or objects in my room without the extra light would suddenly talk.
This face is the incarnated definition of seethe
Kagami was the Chief AD at the time. This particular episode was handled by him. A real old school guy who emulated Takahashi's art as best he could and he did a great job at it. Sadly YGO has abandoned this artstyle now in favor of generic stock kodomo designs.

Shadow Realm was a 4kids thing, they censored it cause "shadow games" were too violent.
Most Shadow Games imply that the loser simply dies.
>It could be anything for all I know, but I will never know unless I go there.
Wanna have a shadow duel?
Best arc is dawn of the duel; monster fighting gets real
Ironically ends up being more frightening; eternal suffering is worse than death.
Well you have a point in there. If anything I always thought about the Shadow Realm as some sort of limbo were you're not dead but will always be there suffering and that definitely is worse than death.
Since all of this is supposed to be Egypt wouldn't the shadow world be akin to the Egyptian underworld rather than hell based on Christian beliefs.
I always imagined they're fed to the cenobites and the shadow realm is basically the labyrinth from hellraiser 2.
All the guys Yugi sends to the shadow realm would fail Anubis' test of virtue and have their heart eaten.
At least that's what I imagine.
Except for the fact that everyone and their mom can rescue you from the Shadow Realm with magic bullshit
I forget the movie so I don't remember what interpretation of anubis myths they went with for the villain.
That's even worse than dying, based 4kids
