When we were teens we just saw him as a edgelord, looking back now I really like his progression. The only really bad moment in his story was the kage summit I'd say. I liked how he had his own story unrelated to Naruto and the other, after the valley fight he'd moved on and was doing his own thing but Naruto couldn't fucking let him be. Shame he failed to take over the world and fix the horrible village system, at least he got a daughter out of it.
