So a while back people have been commenting how the likes of Ulquiorra or Baraggan never got purified with a zanpakutou and would have been reincarnated as powerful individuals in SS if they were. It's my understanding that powerful hollows like the Menos are formed from an amalgamation of a huge number of souls, who are either similar in some fashion (as explained in the Grimmjow flashback), or simply eaten by the others. Still, the personality that an Adjuchas or VL maintains seems to come mostly from a particular, dominant soul within a Menos rather than being simply an amalgamation (again, going by the Grimmjow flashback). When the hollow is purified all those souls get broken up and all of them arrive at SS seperately. I think this because in CFYOW Ichibei tells Halibel and Neliel that purifying hollows as powerful as them is very upsetting to the soul balance and, all else being equal, the Shinigami very much prefer powerful hollows to stay in HM rather than be purified. We also know from TYBW (Yamamoto and Mayuri conversation, in fact we are explicitly told this was being done) that desperate measures in soul balancing means killing many thousands of Rukongai citizens to even things out.

So likely what would happen if Ulquiorra got purified is that Rukongai would get flooded by tens of thousands of nihilists, tens of thousands of people eaten by nihilist hollows, and among all those there would be a somewhat exceptional, but not necessarily super powerful, nihilist dude representing the dominant personality of Ulquiorra. So Ulquiorra and Baraggan not being purified probably only really cost SS two officer (not necessarily captain) material Rukongai arrivals, and saved them a logistical and moral issue of needing to balance (likely through culling) a flood of Rukongai arrivals.

So much of these last two volumes has been Aizen acting smug then something unexpected occurs to make him change facial expressions but it ultimately accomplish nothing. Even watching the anime as a kid, this began to annoy me.

Soifon's bankai has extremely high destructive power. It did took off half of Barragan's face and his arm. I would say that Renji has the weakest bankai. He can't control if very well and it seems useless for any close of fights.

But we are told that Menos, and VLs are a class of Menos, are born from simular souls coalescing together. So Ulquiorra being "born" a VL doesn't mean appearing as VL in HM out of nowhere but emerging / awakening with his personality from a pile of nihilist souls.
