there is good isekai and bad isekai.
There is fun isekai and boring isekai.
It's just another route through which a story is told.

I prefer to watch anime based on isekai than read manga or LN for it.

as a concept it has a lot of potential but 99.999% of the time it's used for autistic chuuni otaku self insert power fantasies. And even when it tries switching around the genres/subject matter the worlds themselves always end up being extremely bland. Just look at OP's pic related. We have seen that exact ugly ass town 10,000 times.

What did you think of school harems and battle harems 10 years back?

One of the worst genres currently.
Almost every story is either a shitty self insert power fantasy, or is some sort of parody/satire of the self insert power fantasy concept.

it's a fad that will be replaced eventually. Battle HS harems to isekai they're all souless and exist to get more yen out of otakus who want to enjoy the power fantasy of the self insert MC.

I thought Overlord was pretty good for an isekai

yeah but slice can be so much larger as a genreI mean fucking jojo becomes a slice of life in part 4. Isekai got popular because of a shit series and will fade away when something else comes to take it's place.

Its good but I want more gayseki or at least some more fujo bait.
Titan's Bride is a good step in the right direction.

It could be better, as I see it now it tends to lean towards fantasy specifically magical medieval europe but I just hope it does more with the "transported to another world" idea like transport them to a new fresh take like a futuristic setting or something that can surprise me as of now I'll just wait for it to happen.

i have never watched or read an isekai series. it sounds like a waste of time. i have no problem with fantasy as a setting, but the same stupid premise of getting hit by a truck or whatever and landing in a world of JRPG mechanics being recycled repeatedly sounds retarded.

I think Optimus Prime is some kind of angel of death now considering all the teens he has mowed down to send them to special fantasy worlds.

There's a lot of shit but some relatively obscure gems.
Of the isekai that became anime, almost all of them are overrated and mass appeal to normalfags.
