Even when he dies his thought goes to the survival of his island and people.
Even the cringevers can't disagree with him anymore but they are still gonna do their bullshit.
He did all he could to save this part of the plot and now he is gone.

Hange's death was a lot better imo. Giving your life to buy some time for the next generation and then being greeted by your fallen comrades afterwards was pretty standard but still well done.
