Not to mention, other manga do this all the time. No one knows what's going to happen in the Dark Continent. No one knows what the One Piece exactly is and how it will trigger the final war. No one knows how Eren will be stopped.
The same was the case with Aki. Everyone was anticipating what his death will be and excited but no one knew. In the end, it was the most underwhelming thing Fujimoto could've thrown in.

Again, the shock was that Power randomly showed up and suddenly died. No one expected it to happen right then and there. It wasn't something that shocking, that's the main point. It was underwhelming because of how insignificant it was.

If Aki suddenly appeared in the school with Reze/Denji and died that will be shocking too. Just because we knew Aki would die doesn't mean it can't be shocking.

You vastly overestimated their importance in the story because you assumed it would be like other series. It is not. They are not. Try and cope with that however you want.
