It's a completely commercialized holiday like Valentines. Except it flows into their New Year which is a big fricken deal to them.

Just don't turn up. Tell them, I don't work public holidays and that you're sure as fuck not turning up on boxing day either.

your value at work is the work you do and nothing else, and if you work hard regardless of being valued it is because you must or lose your "value" entirely. billions of people work somewhere longterm somewhere they're not valued for myriad reasons that have nothing to do with their personal character. if it were soely down to personal character there would be billions of rich people, yet there are not. telling people that everyone can pull your shit is disingenuous and outright false when you've already admitted it's because of the industry in which you work, where the demand for your work is enough to offset your obviously belligerent character.
