Does anyone still remember the shitshow that was Gundam SEED Destiny?
Honestly, I completely forgot what it was about but I do remember that it was completely divisive and how it apparently "almost killed the Gundam franchise"

>almost killed the Gundam franchise
It's literally the best selling Gundam of all time. If anything it revitalized Gundam in Japan.
>Does anyone still remember the shitshow that was Gundam SEED Destiny?
Yeah I've rewatched Seed and Destiny way too many times. There's just something really silly about them that makes it a fun watch. Only the first half of seed was decent though, the rest was shit.
I'm pretty sure this was the first 21st century anime to actually create mass butthurt on the internet.
12 year old me was so mad I actually made an anime-suki account to talk about it. But now I look back on it fondly, and ask why the fuck did they undo it all 3 episodes later?
I remember that there were arguments and fear mongering about Gundam becoming shoujo-esque. I guess they weren't completely wrong with that
i remember cumming so hard when shinn got BTFO by athlun.
SEED is alright, but Destiny?
Destiny is just unbearable.
Was a pretty cool scene though. Fucking defeating freedom with impulse was great. And then he lost it all.

I don't think there will ever be a better ED in anime.
Destiny was the first anime series I watched that I actually knew was anime, I had unknowingly watched anime in the form of pokemon and other stuff on toonami
Even though it's bad it still holds a special place in my heart and I'm strongly nostalgic for it, I wanna rewatch it soon, they're apparently redubbing SEED in english for the new release so I think Destiny might be getting a redub too.

SEED was so good, that finale arc was easily one of the top 3 in Gundam
The direction was just so tight
Gundam was shoujo-esque a decade earlier with wing
>It's literally the best selling Gundam of all time.
Is that why Gunpla sales were so shit that they decided to stop making SEED?
Gundam SEED was the best selling ANIME of all time when it aired.
I think Unicorn beat it now, but at one point SEED was the best selling anime of all time. It was pushing like 70k per volume.
Unicorn beat that and did over 100K per volume.
This has nothing to with the gunpla sales(which I know bandai is more concerned about) that being said SEED gundam model kits and toys have actually sold VERY well.
During its airing the shelf warmers were mostly the non Gundam kits, but people were eating up designs like the Strike, Freedom, Astrays, etc.
It's the reason why with almost every new toyline or model grade Bandai introduces we see a Strike freedom or a strike show up.
The Strike is one of the few gundams to be made available in all grades, as well as other lines like RD and MB.
The fact that china is getting a 1/1 freedom statue also speaks to how popular seed was.
I remember it gave me aids
>Gunpla sales were so shit
but they're still shitting out kits from both destiny and seed though? And the type of kits that require a lot more development than a typical HG at that?
Unlike AGE and Greco.
I remember some character ending up resurrected from the dead because of an internet poll. I forgot who that was but I think that was adding fuel to the firestorm of rage, sperging, and other unpleasant things all across the internetscape at that time. Seen discussions of Gundam SEED as far as random comment threads on Newgrounds and Kongregate. Man I miss those times
SEED and Destiny are not the same thing.
Either way they both sold extremely well anime-wise and merchchandise-wise, Destiny was the one that broke that 70K record btw
Probably Mu. His mech got blasted in like final or penultimate episode by a cannon so that nothing was left of it, in space. Then I remember him coming back and using the same mask as the antagonist of first season. The issue with this piece of shit was that it basically just recycled first season with shittier characters.
Man it was so fun reading blogpost after blogpost of seething anger that Destiny generated in every single anime or even in non-anime oriented geek forum. It was, dare I say, the early 2000s Sword Art Online but I think it was more divisive than SAO. It's so weird that everyone seems to forget it's existence nowadays. God I'm old
literally Jesus, rises 3 episodes later to steal the protagonist title
Destiny sold better than SEED.

This song was ahead of its time and everyone who hates it needs to leave.
This show would've been a fuckton if Shinn actually killed Kira and drove Athrun literally insane. Durundal was a bad antagonist. Athrun losing his shit and trying to kill Shinn for the rest of the show would've been way better.
>"almost killed the Gundam franchise"
what are you smoking? Turn A is the one that almost killed gundam, then SEED revived it
Shitshow was Wing.
This, THis, THIS.
I remember this song getting so much hate because it wasn't another Alt-Rock/D&B track, but it was so fucking good, and honestly it was a really fitting closer to the end of the series.
It has a calming tone and the whole song is just smooth as fuck.
It also reminds me a lot of Utada Hikaru's music which like that track is heavily R&B.
I wish we had more anime music that sounded like this, but songs that aren't just your typical j-rock/j-pop affairs are hard to come by.
Need more for my Japanese R&B playlist.
man, you'd be amazed at how many other alternatives people have dreamed up for Destiny's second half.
/m/ still has weekly threads on "how to fix seed" and has been for like the last decade.
I almost guarantee that if this song was an OP for an anime as popular as Destiny was back then today it would go viral
>"how to fix seed"
fukuda did that and make Cross Ange
Durundal had a great voice, but nobody really understood his masterplan and he never piloted a gundam to fight Kira
Was expecting him to go out like Rau but instead he just got shot by Ray for some reason
And the Earth Alliance being jobbers again. What was the point of Neo in the plot anyway?
I watched this on Bionix
CA has a few common elements with SEED, but it's a very far stretch to call it a "fixed version".
Also SEED was perfectly fine, it's Destiny that went off the rails, and even then it's only the second half.
It's one of the few anime that could really benefit from a remake or maybe even a recut.
Cross Ange would've been actual kino if the guy and maid would've turned out to be Ange's delusions. Instead he just Jesus Yamato'd them in even worse fashion. Ange literally makes fun of it too and there's no explanation, "where are your bullet wounds".
The tv series also showed his broken helmet floating in space. They removed it in the movie compilation version so they could have the twist in Destiny.
Yeah, making Rey Kira's "final boss" was weird, considering he was pretty much in the background the entire series, barely did anything impressive as a pilot when he worked with Shinn and Assram, and then was handed new gundam seemingly just because he was Durandal's boytoy.
/m/ never forgets and /m/ never forgives.
Notice how the the only thing that gets made are the suits piloted by Kira and Shinn while anything that isn't a recolor or remold or those mechs are ignored.
The only thing I remember about SEED Destiny was the hot blond and the hot redhead.
>only kira and shinn get new kits
Infinite justice and windam got new HGs this year, and last year we had Lunamaria gunner zaku warrior
