We're living in the golden age of anime, enjoy it while it lasts.

every few years a golden age arrives. While its true we have great anime now, look at the kino shit at every other period

1994-2001
>NGE
>Lain
>Trigun
>Bebop

2006-2012
>Code Geass
>Gurenn Lagann
>Death Note
>Haruhi Suzumiya

There will be kino and trash every few years, we can just wait out the trash to see the kino.

The problem isn't that the anime is worse now, but that the culture surrounding anime has turned to shit. when anime was niche, ony select works got released in the west and the anime fandom subsquently had good taste, now everyone is an ironic weeb who watches the latest wacky moe and isekai shows.

I mean, inevitably this kind of stuff happens, but kino gets noticed most of the time anyways.

Just ignore newfag posts.

The golden age was 80s to 2000. We are living in the great decline. Isekai shit, idol shit, and wish-fulfillment girlfriend shit dominate.

imagine thinking that 1980s had only good anime. The only things that have changed are the types of garbage produced

>Isekai shit, idol shit, and wish-fulfillment girlfriend shit dominate.
All three of what you listed was extremely popular in the 1990s and 1980s.
The golden age was 1995-2011.

Not sure man, i would rather watch bad "World Masterpice theater" shows than idol garbage.

The 90s were unwatchable.

early 90s. Late 90s had a stream of kino

>not knowing about the dogshit magical girl animes in 1980s

Between them there are maybe 10 of those shows a season. They don't dominate at all. And the girlfriend shit started in the 80s at the latest.

Can you name those please?

Anyone that doesn't think that the golden age has passed is retarded. Good shows are still released every once in a while but the industry has become significantly more fractured, and much less money is put into each individual show. Just look at the quality and amount of OVAs in the 80s to early 90s and compare it to now.

power fantasy/isekai is just the degeneration of battle shounen. It removes all the fluff and pretense and gives you an over powered character winning fights.

>and amount of OVAs in the 80s to early 90s and compare it to now.
You do realize that the vast majority of OVAs were extremely low budget 1-3 episode shows made in a basement studio with slideshow animation, random seiyuu picked off the streets and had the budget of a pack of ramen noodles, right?
Or are you one of those people who think Sunrise stuff such as Stardust Memories was the standard?
You can't honestly tell me that an average, regular OVA like Elf 17 is of a higher quality than the average stuff that gets shat out now, would you?

What on earth do static jpgs have to do with animation series?
Are we buying a gaming console here?

Back in the 1990s, the actual, dedicated Western anime fans (people who explored anime beyond what aired on television) mostly watched wacky moe stuff.

gatsu no lion
some kyoani show
mob psycho
jojo
hnk
that boring jap theatre show
??
girls last tour
??

>now everyone is an ironic weeb who watches the latest wacky moe
My fucking high school club used to worship moeshit like galaxy angel and tenchi muyo dude

Hibike S2 was great, the beginning dragged with flute and oboe drama.
Rakugo S2 was good until the ending
Houseki no Kuni was nice
Part 4 was ok Part 5 was better in my opinion.

I dropped Sangatsu in s2.
Dropped mob.
Dropped SSR.
Dropped/stalled Kazoku.
I haven't seen bottom left.

Even if Zig Forums collectively hates on anime from 2012-Present, the past decade was great.

I enjoyed a lot more shows from the past decade more than any other period.

Thanks a lot

>culture surrounding anime has turned to shit
It's always been that, there are just more places where you can hear their voices now

>when anime was niche
anime was more mainstream in the 80s and 90s than it is now

You'll be saying the same thing in 15 years.

Of course even during the golden age the standard wouldn't be high budget shit, but there's difference between high budget OVAs being ~20% of what gets released to ~5% of what gets released. I mean come on, Unless I'm overlooking something, the last original, relatively high budget OVA was the witch's bride which came out in 2016 and not only did it probably have less budget than stuff in the 80s, but it wasn't particularly good either. Yes I am saying that the average OVA from the 80s is better than the average show coming out rn.

Yeah, no. The Golden Age has long passed since it's peak during the late 80's.and late 90's. Ever since then, Anime has became more corporatized, cheaper, and extremely formulaic, far far more than previous generations. We have more anime being produced, yet 99% of it isn't allowed to have more than 12 episodes a season. Movies barely look any better than the average episode of a TV anime. And yet they still sell because the harsh Japanese society forced a generation of men into become lonely virgin consumers watching countless generic moe high school shows to make up for their own lackluster high school experiences.

>. Yes I am saying that the average OVA from the 80s is better than the average show coming out rn.
You're actually delusional if you believe this, unless you unironically enjoy barely animated cels sliding across your screen and characters changing hair colors for frames.

Of course, the best OVAs (which made up 5% of what game out, not 20%) mostly shit on most modern anime, but that's the thing. Saying OVAs were better than modern anime while comparing fucking Patlabor to some barely notable seasonal shit would be like me comparing Space Dandy and comparing it to some old shitty ecchi OVA like 1+2=Paradise and saying that modern anime is better.

>and extremely formulaic
The vast majority of pre-2000s anime is unironically 50+ episode MoTW battle shonen and mahou shoujo. It's downright false to claim that modern anime is more formulaic, especially given how experimental and varied the 2000s were.

i used to think the same thing a long time ago, its just a phase we go through, in my high school a group of kids did the Hare Hare Yukai on public and had lost faith, just like how you are disapointed at ironic weebs, just ignore all the normalfag shits and wait out for a few years, good things will get noticed and most will get filtred, noticed how he mentioned 4 anime for 6 year gap? i made a script the scrapes myanimelist, and did the math on average anime released every year(that being 225) now thats almost 1.2k+ anime/moive/ova and everything released in the timeframe of 6 years, so trust me good things do come out and most will get filtred.

Names of these shows? How come no one on Zig Forums talks about them? I refuse to watch digitranny so I have no idea what animes are out anymore.

So the anime fandom has been shit and will always be shit? good shows will come and we just have to wait? the people like me and you who are not otakus and are just looking for good shows will always be minority? the majority will always be consumers looking for escapism?
