It's not *a* great meme that is needed, it's great memes, period. Even in 2017 link had great memes, most being humorous and self depreciating. Thr self depreciation aspect is a very important one I think, I remember back in the days not investing in FUN because even if some of the memes were good the community called themselves "chads", most half of memes were very sexual too, it signals for low maturity people.
To my knowledge link was the only one to have a really great memetic ecosystem, with 2016-2017 eth being a close second.
