Done a bajillion times and better by other shows (see attack on titan, now and then here and there etc.)
The plot is very unique if a bit predictable but for a 12 episode anime original you can do a lot worse. Too many speedwatchers dropped it at episode 2 thinking it was a video game all along.

No it wasn't, a snapshot of a rigorous presumptive final battle gave no indication of the crazy shit the show would go through to get there. The marketing campaign and cutesy OP and fake ED were so perfect for throwing everyone for a loop. But even if you aren't looking at the bait and switch aspect Madoka is so much better than DD in every regard. It's a perfect anime, DD is great but it isn't perfect.

Madoka > DD Im not arguing that, but DD was the bigger bait and switch. When I watched Madoka I wasnt super surprised that Mami died because it seemed like they were building up to something dark throughout the first 3 episodes.
