It's unique. Lot of pseuds will latch onto it due to the psychological elements and symbolism. Definitely worth reading but there's plenty of flaws not worth arguing about on this shithole.

Not gonna write an essay, but my main personal gripe with the author is how he treats side-characters. They're all pretty much used as plot fodder and all have a death timer floating over their heads. He pretty much emptied the cast with Fire Punch and it seems like he intends to do something similar in Chainsawman. So many people are killed in his works that I've grown apathetic towards death in both of the authors series.

Also Chainsawman is missing a more laid back arc for world-building and character growth. Way too many things have happened in way to short of a time, feels like we were back at the infinite hotel a few weeks ago.

I liked some characters but I don't have a problem with how they're treated since side characters being used as plot fodder is pretty typical of a theme driven narrative. If you've read Fire Punch before Chainsawman, you should be pretty familiar with how everything takes a backseat to the themes. The world and the characters are just means to an end for whatever point Fujimoto is trying to drive home so you're only setting yourself up for disappointment if you get too attached.

It's the most weekly fun I had reading a manga, that's all there is to it.

The issue is that CSM has no themes. Fire Punch had solid character development and themes to back up all the crazy shit while CSM is pure shock value with no development or build up. As a result scenes like the Darkness Devil and the Gun Devil’s debut have zero lasting impact.
