art is better sure, but odas character design is why people enjoy his art, not the quality. Even in redraws his designs are great and memorable.

The Japanese language doesn't have a word for mustache or beard, its just 'facial hair' which is Hige, so if you wanted to be really accurate his name would be Whitefacial hair, but Blackbeard is a historical pirate name, and Whitebeard's name, Edward Newgate, actually shares part of Blackbeards real name, which was Edward Teach. So Whitebeard is the best possible translation because it's a reference.
