Lol that one of the recurrent elements and a huge part of the shows success is the protagonist being comforted and reassured by women after he falls into despairing emotional breakdowns. Most anime is escapist fantasy and self-inserting, but the specific fantasy of 'attractive women gently soothe you when you are overcome by sadbrains' has even greater appeal to the neet crowd than the more generalised and common 'attractive women like and want to fuck you' fantasy.

The only addition I remember to the director's cut was the scene at the very end which they showed immediately in s2 anyway, am I missing something?

This is what pisses me off the most, he isn't growing, all this "trauma" is just him not owning up to his role he plays in the story. He choose to go down this path, and most of his mistakes are of his doing. How am I supposed to relate to him when he decided to go simp mode in the royal selection, get pissed off at crutsh for not helping him, and missing the logical solutions to the problems he's in. Every single goddamn time he fails, emilia and rem pull his head out of his ass, and he just does it again in the next arc. And when he is pretty much the same goddamn simp from the first episode all the way to the last, and im supposed to feel accomplished after all the hard ship? Its insane that people like this shit when he doesnt change and acts in an illogical manner and gets punished for it.

I was so massively confused either way, it's like they pulled the whole premise of s2 out of thin air. The oni was supposed to be saved and then she's not. Then they just get trapped in matrix after randomly walking in a forest as if the plot needed more cropping.
