One of the best piss episodes in all of anime.

>How did this manage to become such a timeless masterpiece?
Because it takes place in one of the most beautiful places in the world, Spain
Music.
It didnt, k-on with guns will always be shit.
I didn't like it that much. Pandering, thematic clashes, mood often changes between dead serious drama to light-hearted comedy which makes it hard to take it seriously when it's needed, the ending was extremely cheesy...
It has a very interesting setting and Michiru Oshima outdid herself on the OST, so I will always remember it despite not enjoying it as much as I'd want. I wouldn't say it has become a timeless classic, but it has managed to gain a small and dedicated fanbase.
What a pleb.
>Tfw spaniard and never visited Cuenca.
It has something for everyone in a small amount of episodes, and manages to package it up harmoniously.
>great animation
>great music
>interesting military plot
>interesting SOL plots
>fun characters
>literally 5 best girls
by showing everyone how to do haibane renmei right

By adding a dedicated piss episode to it?
the piss episode is the show's thematic foundation
Gap moe done right
I can't tell who's my favorite character. NotNagato, NotNiko, NotYui, or NotAlicia. They are so original and unique that they follow me around to hundreds of different shows.
True, under the blatant existentialist and anti-war messages on the surface, the show also has a subtle underlying mono no aware theme going on, so maybe this episode hints at the common, western saying "You never PISS in the same river twice" - coming to terms with and seeing the beauty in the passage of time and the inevitable change it brings. Of course, only a highly sophisticated viewer is able to make this connection.
>mood often changes between dead serious drama to light-hearted comedy which makes it hard to take it seriously when it's needed
I think it did this well since it was on an episode-by-episode basis instead of being sudden and out of place, it worked with the kind of setting ad atmosphere it was going for (lazing around in a remote outpost while waiting for news on the conflict)
SOULLESS
SOUL
In my opinion it's near impossible to do this right, this episodic approach only minimizes the damage, but doesn't prevent it. Perhaps it works when the change from light-hearted to serious is gradual and goes only in one direction with some comedic relief here and there, but if you jump back and forth too much, you won't get either of the two right.
As for me, I was always baited into thinking the show was getting serious, it had spent quite a lot of time to get me in the mood for it after all, then I got a ridiculous water gun fight instead, as an example. Just when I managed to suspend my disbelief again and was simply enjoying the comedy, it suddenly got serious again.
I don't know, maybe some people enjoy these extreme mood swings, but I like when a show sets a mood and sticks with it, you can't have everything.
Dropped on the second episode, does it get better?
Kill yourself.
>series building to up potentially the last war in history, where half the characters are war orphans or outright have active PTSD has some mood clashes
Fucking woooowieeee, it's almost like they did it on purpose!
How can Canada carry such a huge pack? She's like IMAGINE size
She has that strong turompetah diaphragm
funny considering that area is getting emptier by the year
SOVL, world building, mystery, grounded considering its setting, right amount of melancholy/hope/life
Doing something bad on purpose doesn't make it any better.
You're the only one doing bad things.
