The series is perfect. There is no critique. Yet people usually rate it an 8/10 or so? Why is that? Did you not understand the dialogue? Did the medieval finances go over your head? Character development a bit too advanced for you to comprehend?

Because it's not, big surprise. If you like MAL so much, why don't you go back there and read some of the reviews, they contain plenty of critique and it's hardly possible for all of it to be completely unfounded.
I don't remember the anime well enough to make a convincing case, but I remember it was just a comfy adventure - no ambition, not much thematic depth, no conclusion. While it stands out above your average, seasonal show, I still feel as though the author wasn't really aiming very high with it.

No. You didn't pay enough attention, nor did most of the mal reviewers. The novel is more appropriately rated than the anime, but it's still not enough. The depth of the themes the characters and the storylines are much much more deep than most people give it credit for.

If it's the greatest thing to have ever come to existence, you should be able to explain why without making vague statements such as "you have to understand it". I have to agree with you that everything happens for a reason and therefore there has to be a reason why it should be considered the greatest thing in existence - a reason that people are able to understand without having to experience some esoteric awakening.

Also the books are good. Lots of finances and stuff. And the comparisons they use and the times you have to read between the lines are fun to figure out. And the fact that you can trust any medieval info is actually factual because of how much research the creator put into the series.
Also it's just the thing I enjoy the most in life. The feeling it gives is unparalleled. I'm just hoping someone else can discover that feeling, too.
The Helck sequel takes a very similar approach and looks very promising so far.
